Elihu in Anger Rebukes Job
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he seemed just to himself. 1 And these three men cease from answering Job, for he is righteous in his own eyes,
2 But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.2 And Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was angry and was moved to indignation : now he was angry against Job, because he said he was just before God. 2 and burn doth the anger of Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram; against Job hath his anger burned, because of his justifying himself more than God;
3 And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3 And he was angry with his friends because they had not found a reasonable answer, but only had condemned Job. 3 and against his three friends hath his anger burned, because that they have not found an answer, and condemn Job.
4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were years older than he.4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.4 Now Elihu had waited to speak unto Job, because they were elder than he.4 So Eliu waited while Job was speaking, because they were his elders that were speaking. 4 And Elihu hath waited earnestly beside Job with words, for they are older than he in days.
5 And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men his anger burned.5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.5 And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.5 But when he saw that the three were not able to answer, he was exceedingly angry. 5 And Elihu seeth that there is no answer in the mouth of the three men, and his anger burneth.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite spoke out and said, "I am young in years and you are old; Therefore I was shy and afraid to tell you what I think.6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; Wherefore I held back, and durst not show you mine opinion.6 Then Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said : I am younger in days, and you are more ancient; therefore hanging down my head, I was afraid to shew you my opinion. 6 And Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answereth and saith: -- Young I am in days, and ye are age Therefore I have feared, And am afraid of shewing you my opinion.
7 "I thought age should speak, And increased years should teach wisdom.7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.7 I said, Days should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.7 For I hoped that greater age would speak, and that a multitude of years would teach wisdom. 7 I said: Days do speak, And multitude of years teach wisdom.
8 "But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty giveth them understanding.8 But, as I see, there is a spirit in men, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth understanding. 8 Surely a spirit is in man, And the breath of the Mighty One Doth cause them to understand.
9 "The abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may elders understand justice.9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.9 It is not the great that are wise, Nor the aged that understand justice.9 They that are aged are not the wise men, neither do the ancients understand judgment. 9 The multitude are not wise, Nor do the aged understand judgment.
10 "So I say, 'Listen to me, I too will tell what I think.'10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will show mine opinion.10 Therefore I will speak : Hearken to me, I also will shew you my wisdom. 10 Therefore I have said: Hearken to me, I do shew my opinion -- even I.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 "Behold, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, While you pondered what to say.11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.11 Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your reasonings, Whilst ye searched out what to say.11 For I have waited for your words, I have given ear to your wisdom, as long as you were disputing in words. 11 Lo, I have waited for your words, I give ear unto your reasons, Till ye search out sayings.
12 "I even paid close attention to you; Indeed, there was no one who refuted Job, Not one of you who answered his words.12 Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:12 Yea, I attended unto you, And, behold, there was none that convinced Job, Or that answered his words, among you.12 And as long as I thought you said some thing, I considered : but, as I see, there is none of you that can convince Job, and answer his words. 12 And unto you I attend, And lo, there is no reasoner for Job, Or answerer of his sayings among you.
13 "Do not say, 'We have found wisdom; God will rout him, not man.'13 Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.13 Beware lest ye say, We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not man:13 Lest you should say : We have found wisdom, God hath cast him down, not man. 13 Lest ye say, We have found wisdom, God doth thrust him away, not man.
14 "For he has not arranged his words against me, Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.14 Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.14 For he hath not directed his words against me; Neither will I answer him with your speeches.14 He hath spoken nothing to me, and I will not answer him according to your words. 14 And he hath not set in array words for me, And with your sayings I do not answer him.
15 "They are dismayed, they no longer answer; Words have failed them.15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.15 They are amazed, they answer no more: They have not a word to say.15 They were afraid, and answered no more, and they left off speaking. 15 (They have broken down, They have not answered again, They removed from themselves words.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 "Shall I wait, because they do not speak, Because they stop and no longer answer?16 When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)16 And shall I wait, because they speak not, Because they stand still, and answer no more?16 Therefore because I have waited, and they have not spoken : they stood, and answered no more : 16 And I have waited, but they do not speak, For they have stood still, They have not answered any more.)
17 "I too will answer my share, I also will tell my opinion.17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.17 I also will answer my part, I also will show mine opinion.17 I also will answer my part, and will shew my knowledge. 17 I answer, even I -- my share, I shew my opinion -- even I.
18 "For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.18 For I am full of words; The spirit within me constraineth me.18 18 For I have been full of words, Distressed me hath the spirit of my breast,
19 "Behold, my belly is like unvented wine, Like new wineskins it is about to burst.19 Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.19 Behold, my breast is as wine which hath no vent; Like new wine-skins it is ready to burst.19 Behold, my belly is as new wine which wanteth vent, which bursteth the new vessels. 19 Lo, my breast is as wine not opened, Like new bottles it is broken up.
20 "Let me speak that I may get relief; Let me open my lips and answer.20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed; I will open my lips and answer.20 I will speak and take breath a little : I will open my lips, and will answer. 20 I speak, and there is refreshment to me, I open my lips and answer.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 "Let me now be partial to no one, Nor flatter any man.21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.21 Let me not, I pray you, respect any man's person; Neither will I give flattering titles unto any man.21 I will not accept the person of man, and I will not level God with man. 21 Let me not, I pray you, accept the face of any, Nor unto man give flattering titles,
22 "For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.22 For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.22 For I know not to give flattering titles; Else would my Maker soon take me away.22 For I know not how long I shall continue, and whether after a while my Maker may take me away. 22 For I have not known to give flattering titles, In a little doth my Maker take me away.
