The Prophecies of Balaam
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.1 And Balaam said to Balac: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams. 1 And Balaam saith unto Balak, 'Build for me in this place seven altars, and make ready for me in this place seven bullocks and seven rams.'
Balak did just as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.2 And when he had done according to the word of Balaam, they laid together a calf and a ram upon every altar. 2 And Balak doth as Balaam hath spoken, and Balak -- Balaam also -- offereth a bullock and a ram on the altar,
Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you." So he went to a bare hill.3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he showeth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go: peradventure Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatsoever he showeth me I will tell thee. And he went to a bare height.3 And Balaam said to Balac: Stand a while by thy burnt offering, until I go, to see if perhaps the Lord will meet me, and whatsoever he shall command, I will speak to thee. 3 and Balaam saith to Balak, 'Station thyself by thy burnt-offering and I go on, it may be Jehovah doth come to meet me, and the thing which He sheweth me -- I have declared to thee;' and he goeth to a high place.
Now God met Balaam, and he said to Him, "I have set up the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar."4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.4 And when he was gone with speed, God met him. And Balaam speaking to him, said: I have erected seven altars, and have laid on everyone a calf and a ram. 4 And God cometh unto Balaam, and he saith unto Him, 'The seven altars I have arranged, and I offer a bullock and a ram on the altar;'
Then the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus."5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.5 And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.5 And the Lord put the word in his mouth, and said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou speak. 5 and Jehovah putteth a word in the mouth of Balaam, and saith, 'Turn back unto Balak, and thus thou dost speak.'
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
So he returned to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab.6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he was standing by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.6 Returning he found Balac standing by his burnt offering, with all the princes of the Moabites: 6 And he turneth back unto him, and lo, he is standing by his burnt-offering, he and all the princes of Moab.
He took up his discourse and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab's king from the mountains of the East, 'Come curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!'7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.7 And he took up his parable, and said, From Aram hath Balak brought me, The king of Moab from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel.7 And taking up his parable, he said: Balac king of the Moabites hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, said he, and curse Jacob: make haste and detest Israel. 7 And he taketh up his simile, and saith: 'From Aram he doth lead me -- Balak king of Moab; From mountains of the east: Come -- curse for me Jacob, And come -- be indignant with Israel.
"How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah hath not defied?8 How shall I curse him, whom God hath not cursed? By what means should I detest him, whom the Lord detesteth not? 8 What -- do I pierce? -- God hath not pierced! And what -- am I indignant? -- Jehovah hath not been indignant!
"As I see him from the top of the rocks, And I look at him from the hills; Behold, a people who dwells apart, And will not be reckoned among the nations.9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, And from the hills I behold him: lo, it is a people that dwelleth alone, And shall not be reckoned among the nations.9 I shall see him from the tops of the rocks, and shall consider him from the hills. This people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 9 For from the top of rocks I see it, And from heights I behold it; Lo a people! alone it doth tabernacle, And among nations doth not reckon itself.
"Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, And let my end be like his!"10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my last end be like his!10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and know the number of the stock of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the just, and my last end be like to them. 10 Who hath counted the dust of Jacob, And the number of the fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of upright ones, And let my last end be like his!'
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have actually blessed them!"11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.11 And Balac said to Balaam: What is this that thou dost? I sent for thee to curse my enemies: and thou contrariwise blessest them. 11 And Balak saith unto Balaam, 'What hast thou done to me? to pierce mine enemies I have taken thee -- and lo, thou hast certainly blessed;'
He replied, "Must I not be careful to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Jehovah putteth in my mouth?12 He answered him: Call I speak any thing else but what the Lord commandeth? 12 and he answereth and saith, 'That which Jehovah doth put in my mouth -- it do I not take heed to speak?'
Then Balak said to him, "Please come with me to another place from where you may see them, although you will only see the extreme end of them and will not see all of them; and curse them for me from there."13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them; thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.13 Balac therefore said: Come with me to another place from whence thou mayest see part of Israel, and canst not see them all: curse them from thence. 13 And Balak saith unto him, 'Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, whence thou dost see it, only its extremity thou dost see, and all of it thou dost not see, and pierce it for me thence;'
So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.14 And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.14 And when he had brought him to a high place, upon the top of mount Phasga, Balaam built seven altars, and laying on every one a calf and a ram, 14 and he taketh him to the field of Zophim, unto the top of Pisgah, and buildeth seven altars, and offereth a bullock and a ram on the altar.
And he said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering while I myself meet the LORD over there."15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt-offering, while I meet Jehovah yonder.15 He said to Balac: Stand here by thy burnt offering while I go to meet him. 15 And he saith unto Balak, 'Station thyself here by thy burnt-offering, and I -- I meet Him there;'
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then the LORD met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.16 And Jehovah met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus shalt thou speak.16 And when the Lord had met him, and had put the word in his mouth, he said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou say to him. 16 and Jehovah cometh unto Balaam, and setteth a word in his mouth, and saith, 'Turn back unto Balak, and thus thou dost speak.'
He came to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?17 And he came to him, and, lo, he was standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath Jehovah spoken?17 Returning he found him standing by his burnt sacrifice, and the princes of the Moabites with him. And Balac said to him: What hath the Lord spoken? 17 And he cometh unto him, and lo, he is standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him, and Balak saith to him: 'What hath Jehovah spoken?'
Then he took up his discourse and said, "Arise, O Balak, and hear; Give ear to me, O son of Zippor!18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; Hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:18 But he taking up his parable, said: Stand, O Balac, and give ear: hear, thou son of Sephor: 18 And he taketh up his simile, and saith: 'Rise, Balak, and hear; Give ear unto me, son of Zippor!
"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?19 God is not a man, that he should lie, Neither the son of man, that he should repent: Hath he said, and will he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and will he not make it good?19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor as the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? hath he spoken, and will he not fulfil? 19 God is not a man -- and lieth, And a son of man -- and repenteth! Hath He said -- and doth He not do it? And spoken -- and doth He not confirm it?
"Behold, I have received a command to bless; When He has blessed, then I cannot revoke it.20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: And he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it.20 I was brought to bless, the blessing I am not able to hinder. 20 Lo, to bless I have received: Yea, He blesseth, and I can not reverse it.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"He has not observed misfortune in Jacob; Nor has He seen trouble in Israel; The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob; Neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: Jehovah his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.21 There is no idol in Jacob, neither is there an image god to be seen in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the sound of the victory of the king in him. 21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, Nor hath He seen perverseness in Israel; Jehovah his God is with him, And a shout of a king is in him.
 "God brings them out of Egypt, He is for them like the horns of the wild ox.22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.22 God bringeth them forth out of Egypt; He hath as it were the strength of the wild-ox.22 God hath brought him out of Egypt, whose strength is like to the rhinoceros. 22 God is bringing them out from Egypt, As the swiftness of a Reem is to him;
"For there is no omen against Jacob, Nor is there any divination against Israel; At the proper time it shall be said to Jacob And to Israel, what God has done!23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!23 Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob; Neither is there any divination with Israel: Now shalt it be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!23 There is no soothsaying in Jacob, nor divination in Israel. In their times it shall be told to Jacob and to Israel what God hath wrought. 23 For no enchantment is against Jacob, Nor divination against Israel, At the time it is said of Jacob and Israel, What hath God wrought!
"Behold, a people rises like a lioness, And as a lion it lifts itself; It will not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain."24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.24 Behold, the people riseth up as a lioness, And as a lion doth he lift himself up: He shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, And drink the blood of the slain.24 Behold the people shall rise up as a lioness, and shall lift itself up as a lion: it shall not lie down till it devour the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. 24 Lo, the people as a lioness riseth, And as a lion he lifteth himself up, He lieth not down till he eateth prey, And blood of pierced ones doth drink.'
Then Balak said to Balaam, "Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!"25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.25 And Balac said to Balaam: Neither curse, nor bless him. 25 And Balak saith unto Balaam, 'Neither pierce it at all, nor bless it at all;'
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
But Balaam replied to Balak, "Did I not tell you, 'Whatever the LORD speaks, that I must do '?"26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that Jehovah speaketh, that I must do?26 And he said: Did I not tell thee, that whatsoever God should command me, that I would do? 26 and Balaam answereth and saith unto Balak, 'Have I not spoken unto thee, saying, All that Jehovah speaketh -- it I do?'
Then Balak said to Balaam, "Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will be agreeable with God that you curse them for me from there."27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come now, I will take thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.27 And Balac said to him: Come and I will bring thee to another place; if peradventure it please God that thou mayest curse them from thence. 27 And Balak saith unto Balaam, 'Come, I pray thee, I take thee unto another place; it may be it is right in the eyes of God -- to pierce it for me from thence.'
So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which overlooks the wasteland.28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.28 And Balak took Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh down upon the desert.28 And when he had brought him upon the top of mount Phogor, which looketh towards the wilderness, 28 And Balak taketh Balaam to the top of Peor, which is looking on the front of the wilderness,
Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.29 Balaam said to him: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams. 29 and Balaam saith unto Balak, 'Build for me in this place seven altars, and make ready for me in this place seven bullocks and seven rams;'
Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.30 Balac did as Balaam had said: and he laid on every altar, a calf and a ram. 30 and Balak doth as Balaam said, and he offereth a bullock and a ram on an altar.
