Cities for the Levites
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho, saying,1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,1 And the Lord spoke these things also to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, over against Jericho: 1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, near Jericho, saying,
2 "Command the sons of Israel that they give to the Levites from the inheritance of their possession cities to live in; and you shall give to the Levites pasture lands around the cities.2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and suburbs for the cities round about them shall ye give unto the Levites.2 Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites out of their possessions, 2 'Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.
3 "The cities shall be theirs to live in; and their pasture lands shall be for their cattle and for their herds and for all their beasts.3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and their suburbs shall be for their cattle, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.3 Cities to dwell in, and their suburbs round about: that they may abide in the towns, and the suburbs may be for their cattle and beasts: 3 And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
4 "The pasture lands of the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall extend from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits around.4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.4 Which suburbs shall reach from the walls of the cities outward, a thousand paces on every side: 4 And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites are, from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.
5 "You shall also measure outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, with the city in the center. This shall become theirs as pasture lands for the cities.5 And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.5 And ye shall measure without the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.5 Toward the east shall be two thousand cubits: and toward the south in like manner shall be two thousand cubits: toward the sea also, which looketh to the west, shall be the same extent: and the north side shall be bounded with the like limits. And the cities shall be in the midst, and the suburbs without. 5 And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city is in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.
Cities of Refuge
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 "The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.6 And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities.6 And among the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, six shall be separated for refuge to fugitives, that he who hath shed blood may flee to them: and besides these there shall be other forty-two cities, 6 And the cities which ye give to the Levites are the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;
7 "All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities, together with their pasture lands.7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.7 All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities; them'shall ye give with their suburbs.7 That is, in all forty-eight with their suburbs. 7 all the cities which ye give to the Levites are forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.
8 "As for the cities which you shall give from the possession of the sons of Israel, you shall take more from the larger and you shall take less from the smaller; each shall give some of his cities to the Levites in proportion to his possession which he inherits."8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.8 And concerning the cities which ye shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many ye shall take many; and from the few ye shall take few: every one according to his inheritance which he inheriteth shall give of his cities unto the Levites.8 And of these cities which shall be given out of the possessions of the children of Israel, from them that have more, more shall be taken: and from them that have less, fewer. Each shall give towns to the Levites according to the extent of their inheritance. 8 And the cities which ye give are of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'
9 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,9 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,9 The Lord said to Moses: 9 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
10 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,10 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: When you shall have passed over the Jordan into the land of Chanaan, 10 'Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 then you shall select for yourselves cities to be your cities of refuge, that the manslayer who has killed any person unintentionally may flee there.11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.11 then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither.11 Determine what cities shall be for the refuge of fugitives, who have shed blood against their will. 11 and have prepared to yourselves cities -- cities of refuge they are to you -- then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,
12 'The cities shall be to you as a refuge from the avenger, so that the manslayer will not die until he stands before the congregation for trial.12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.12 And the cities shall be unto you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation for judgment.12 And when the fugitive shall be in them, the kinsman of him that is slain may not have power to kill him, until he stand before the multitude, and his cause be judged. 12 and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.
13 'The cities which you are to give shall be your six cities of refuge.13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.13 And the cities which ye shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.13 And of those cities, that are separated for the refuge of fugitives, 13 As to the cities which ye give -- six are cities of refuge to you;
14 'You shall give three cities across the Jordan and three cities in the land of Canaan; they are to be cities of refuge.14 Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.14 Ye shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.14 Three shall be beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Chanaan, 14 the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.
15 'These six cities shall be for refuge for the sons of Israel, and for the alien and for the sojourner among them; that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there.15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.15 For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that every one that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither.15 As well for the children of Israel as for strangers and sojourners, that he may flee to them, who hath shed blood against his will. 15 To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 'But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.16 But if he smote him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.16 If any man strike with iron, and he die that was struck : he shall be guilty of murder, and he himself shall die. 16 And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
17 If he struck him down with a stone in the hand, by which he will die, and as a result he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.17 And if he smote him with a stone in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.17 If he throw a stone, and he that is struck die: he shall be punished in the same manner. 17 And if with a stone in the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
18 Or if he struck him with a wooden object in the hand, by which he might die, and as a result he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.18 Or if he smote him with a weapon of wood in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.18 If he that is struck with wood die: he shall be revenged by the blood of him that struck him. 18 Or with a wooden instrument in the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
19 'The blood avenger himself shall put the murderer to death; he shall put him to death when he meets him.19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.19 The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death: when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.19 The kinsman of him that was slain, shall kill the murderer: as soon as he apprehendeth him, he shall kill him. 19 'The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.
20 If he pushed him of hatred, or threw something at him lying in wait and as a result he died,20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;20 And if he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died,20 If through hatred any one push a man, or fling any thing- at him with ill design: 20 And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast anything at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 or if he struck him down with his hand in enmity, and as a result he died, the one who struck him shall surely be put to death, he is a murderer; the blood avenger shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.21 or in enmity smote him with his hand, so that he died; he that smote him shall surely be put to death; he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meeteth him.21 Or being his enemy, strike; him with his hand, and he die: the striker shall be guilty of murder: the kinsman of him that was slain as soon as he findeth him, shall kill him. 21 or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he is a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.
22 'But if he pushed him suddenly without enmity, or threw something at him without lying in wait,22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled upon him anything without lying in wait,22 But if by chance medley, and without hatred, 22 'And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;
23 or with any deadly object of stone, and without seeing it dropped on him so that he died, while he was not his enemy nor seeking his injury,23 Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:23 or with any stone, whereby a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;23 And enmity, he do any of these things, 23 or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth it to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he is not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;
24 then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the blood avenger according to these ordinances.24 Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:24 then the congregation shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances;24 And this be proved in the hearing of the people, and the cause be debated between him that struck, and the next of kin: 24 then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.
25 'The congregation shall deliver the manslayer from the hand of the blood avenger, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge to which he fled; and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.25 and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.25 The innocent shall be delivered from the hand of the revenger, and shall be brought back by sentence into the city, to which he had fled, and he shall abide there until the death of the high priest, that is anointed with the holy oil. 25 'And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
26 'But if the manslayer at any time goes beyond the border of his city of refuge to which he may flee,26 But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;26 But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, whither he fleeth,26 If the murderer be found without the limits of the cities that are appointed for the banished, 26 And if the man-slayer at all go out from the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,
27 and the blood avenger finds him outside the border of his city of refuge, and the blood avenger kills the manslayer, he will not be guilty of blood27 And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:27 and the avenger of blood find him without the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood slay the manslayer; he shall not be guilty of blood,27 And be struck by him that is the avenger of blood: he shall not be guilty that killed him. 27 and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;
28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return to the land of his possession.28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession.28 For the fugitive ought to have stayed in the city until the death of the high priest: and after he is dead, then shall the manslayer return to his own country. 28 for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.
29 'These things shall be for a statutory ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.29 So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.29 And these things shall be for a statute and ordinance unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.29 These things shall be perpetual, and for an ordinance in all your dwellings. 29 'And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:
30 'If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death at the evidence of witnesses, but no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness.30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.30 The murderer shall be punished by witnesses: none shall be condemned upon the evidence of one man. 30 whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth one slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person -- to die.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
31 'Moreover, you shall not take ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.31 Moreover ye shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer, that is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.31 31You shall not take money of him that is guilty of blood, but he shall die forthwith. 31 And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who is condemned -- to die, for he is certainly put to death;
32 'You shall not take ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to live in the land before the death of the priest.32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.32 And ye shall take no ransom for him that is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.32 The banished and fugitives before the death of the high priest may by no means return into their own cities. 32 and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
33 'So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood, it polluteth the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.33 Defile not the land of your habitation, which is stained with the blood of the innocent: neither can it otherwise be expiated, but by his blood that hath shed the blood of another. 33 And ye profane not the land which ye are in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;
34 'You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the LORD am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.'"34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.34 And thou shalt not defile the land which ye inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I, Jehovah, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.34 And thus shall your possession he cleansed, myself abiding with you. For I am the Lord that dwell among the children of Israel. 34 and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'
