GSB: 22:1 And {1} he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
(1) Here is absolved and finished the description of the celestial Church (as I showed before) see Geneva Re 21:12 by the effects in Re 22:5, and then this book is concluded in the rest of the chapter. The effects proceeding from God, who dwells in the Church, are these: the everlasting grace of God, in this verse, the eternal life of the godly, as in Re 2:7 the eternal fruits which the godly bring forth to God, themselves and others, Re 22:2, freedom and immunity from all evil, God himself taking pleasure in his servants, and they likewise in their God, Re 22:3. The beholding and sight of God, and sealing of the faithful from all eternity, Re 22:4 the light of God and an everlasting kingdom and glory, Re 22:5.

PNT: 22:1 The New Jerusalem (Continued). Epilogue

SUMMARY OF REVELATION 22:
The River of the Water of Life. The Tree of Life. The Divine Light of the City. Its Heavenly Purity. The Lord's Promise to Come. The Church Says Come. The Curse Upon Those Who Add to or Take from This Book.
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life. A symbol of the eternal life flowing from the Son of God as a fountain, which has been bestowed upon all who dwell in the heavenly city.
Clear as crystal. Radiant with glory. The shining light which comes from the river shows the glory of the heavenly life.
Proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. The fountain of this life is the throne of God, and it has been bestowed by the Son.

WES: 22:1 And he showed me a river of the water of life - The ever fresh and fruitful effluence of the Holy Ghost. See Ezek 47:1 - 12; where also the trees are mentioned which bear fruit every month, that is, perpetually. Proceeding out of the throne of God, and of the Lamb - All that the Father hath, saith the Son of God, is mine; even the throne of his glory.

MHC: 22:1-5 All streams of earthly comfort are muddy; but these are clear, and refreshing. They give life, and preserve life, to those who drink of them, and thus they will flow for evermore. These point to the quickening and sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit, as given to sinners through Christ. The Holy Spirit, proceeding from the Father and the Son, applies this salvation to our souls by his new-creating love and power. The trees of life are fed by the pure waters of the river that comes from the throne of God. The presence of God in heaven, is the health and happiness of the saints. This tree was an emblem of Christ, and of all the blessings of his salvation; and the leaves for the healing of the nations, mean that his favour and presence supply all good to the inhabitants of that blessed world. The devil has no power there; he cannot draw the saints from serving God, nor can he disturb them in the service of God. God and the Lamb are here spoken of as one. Service there shall be not only freedom, but honour and dominion. There will be no night; no affliction or dejection, no pause in service or enjoyment: no diversions or pleasures or man's inventing will there be wanted. How different all this from gross and merely human views of heavenly happiness, even those which refer to pleasures of the mind! Revelation 22:2

New American Standard Bible: in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
God's Word Translation: Between the street of the city and the river there was a tree of life visible from both sides. It produced 12 kinds of fruit. Each month had its own fruit. The leaves of the tree will heal the nations.
King James Version: In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Bible in Basic English: In the middle of its street. And on this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, having twelve sorts of fruits, giving its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree give life to the nations.
Weymouth New Testament: On either side of the river, midway between it and the main street of the city, was the Tree of Life. It produced twelve kinds of fruit, yielding a fresh crop month by month, and the leaves of the tree served as medicine for the nations.
World English Bible: in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Alphabetical: And are bearing city crops down each either every for fruit great healing in its kinds leaves life middle month nations of On river side stood street the tree twelve was were yielding

PNT: 22:2 In the midst of its street. In the Revised Version this is attached to Re 22:1. It is the river of life that runs in the street. On each side of the river, watered by it, stands

the tree of life... yielded her fruit every month. The thought is that it is always fruitful, not limited to certain seasons of fruit bearing.
The leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations. We are not to conclude that there were diseases to be healed, but that in the city were the means which banished disease and death. The student cannot fail to trace the correspondence with the home of the sinless race in Eden. There was there a river that went out of Eden to water the garden (Ge 2:10). Here there is a river, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb (Re 22:1). There was a tree of life in Paradise. In the New Jerusalem, on either side of the river stands the tree of life bearing twelve manner of fruits, or rather fruit twelve times a year, every month. The river and the tree are symbols of the life bestowed by the grace of God. The river flows from the throne of God and the Lamb; from the fountain whence life and immortality come. The tree yields its fruit at all times, so that the supply never fails. Everything about the tree is healthful. Even the leaves are for the healing of the nations. There is a book, a river and a tree of life. Christ is the life, and all refer in some way to Christ. Trees and rivers presented most attractive features in an oriental city, and are beautiful emblems of the full supplies of life, grace and bliss that shall pervade the heavenly city.

WES: 22:2 In the midst of the street - Here is the paradise of God, mentioned, Rev 2:7. Is the tree of life - Not one tree only, but many. Every month - That is, in inexpressible abundance. The variety, likewise, as well as the abundance of the fruits of the Spirit, may be intimated thereby. And the leaves are for the healing of the nations - For the continuing their health, not the restoring it; for no sickness is there.

MHC: Revelation 22:3

New American Standard Bible: There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;
God's Word Translation: There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and the lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him
King James Version: And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Bible in Basic English: And there will be no more curse: and the high seat of God and of the Lamb will be there; and his servants will be worshipping him;
Weymouth New Testament: "In future there will be no curse," he said, "but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in that city. And His servants will render Him holy service and will see His face,
World English Bible: There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants serve him.

Alphabetical: and any be bond-servants city curse God him his in it Lamb longer No of servants serve The there throne will

PNT: 22:3 And there shall be no more curse. The curse came upon those in Paradise on account of their sins. See Ge 3:14-19. There shall be no more curse, for no sin shall ever enter the New Jerusalem. Every curse that has ever blighted the life of man, must be ascribed to sin. Not a throe of pain has ever been felt by the human body, not a pang has ever pierced the human heart, or a shadow of sorrow passed over the human spirit, which was not due, either directly or indirectly, to transgression. As sin can never pass the gates of the Celestial City, there will be no more pain.

WES: 22:3 And there shall be no more curse - But pure life and blessing; every effect of the displeasure of God for sin being now totally removed. But the throne of God and the Lamb shall be in it - That is, the glorious presence and reign of God. And his servants - The highest honour in the universe. Shalt worship him - The noblest employment.

MHC: Revelation 22:4

New American Standard Bible: they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
God's Word Translation: and see his face. His name will be on their foreheads.
King James Version: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
Bible in Basic English: And they will see his face; and his name will be on their brows.
Weymouth New Testament: and His name will be on their foreheads.
World English Bible: They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

Alphabetical: and be face foreheads his name on see their They will

PNT: 22:4 They shall see his face. See Mt 5:8. They shall enjoy the visible presence of the Lamb.

And his name [shall be] in their foreheads. Written by God's finger. It shall always be seen and known that they are his.

WES: 22:4 And shall see his face - Which was not granted to Moses. They shall have the nearest access to, and thence the highest resemblance of, him. This is the highest expression in the language of scripture to denote the most perfect happiness of the heavenly state, 1John 3:2. And his name shall be on their foreheads - Each of them shall be openly acknowledged as God's own property, and his glorious nature most visibly shine forth in them. And they shall reign - But who are the subjects of these kings? The other inhabitants of the new earth. For there must needs be an everlasting difference between those who when on earth excelled in virtue, and those comparatively slothful and unprofitable servants, who were just saved as by fire. The kingdom of God is taken by force; but the prize is worth all the labour. Whatever of high, lovely, or excellent is in all the monarchies of the earth is all together not a grain of dust, compared to the glory of the children of God. God is not ashamed to be called their God, for whom he hath prepared this city. But who shall come up into his holy place? They who keep his commandments, verse 14. Rev 22:14

MHC: Revelation 22:5

New American Standard Bible: And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
God's Word Translation: There will be no more night, and they will not need any light from lamps or the sun because the Lord God will shine on them. They will rule as kings forever and ever.
King James Version: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Bible in Basic English: And there will be no more night; and they have no need of a light or of the shining of the sun; for the Lord God will give them light: and they will be ruling for ever and ever.
Weymouth New Testament: And there will be no night there; and they have no need of lamplight or sunlight, for the Lord God will shine upon them, and they will be kings until the Ages of the Ages."
World English Bible: There will be no night, and they need no lamp light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.

Alphabetical: a And any be because ever for forever give God have illumine lamp light longer Lord more need night no nor not of or reign sun the them There They will

PNT: 22:5 And there shall be no night there. The city is a city of light lighted by the divine presence, but the meaning goes beyond this. The soul shall have no nights of sorrow there.

And they shall reign for ever and ever. They shall be Christ's assistants in the rule of the glorified earth.

WES: 22:5 And they shall reign for ever and ever - What encouragement is this to the patience and faithfulness of the saints, that, whatever their sufferings are, they will work out for them an eternal weight of glory! Thus ends the doctrine of this Revelation, in the everlasting happiness of all the faithful. The mysterious ways of Providence are cleared up, and all things issue in an eternal Sabbath, an everlasting state of perfect peace and happiness, reserved for all who endure to the end.

MHC: Revelation 22:6

New American Standard Bible: And he said to me, "These words are faithful and true"; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place.
God's Word Translation: He said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord God of the spirits of the prophets has sent his angel to show his servants the things that must happen soon.
King James Version: And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
Bible in Basic English: And he said to me, These words are certain and true: and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to make clear to his servants the things which are now to come about.
Weymouth New Testament: And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the Prophets, sent His angel to make known to His servants the things which must soon happen.
World English Bible: He said to me, "These words are faithful and true. The Lord God of the spirits of the prophets sent his angel to show to his bondservants the things which must happen soon."

Alphabetical: and angel are bond-servants faithful God he his Lord me must of place prophets said sent servants show soon spirits take that The These things to trustworthy which words

GSB: 22:6 {2} And he said unto me, These sayings [are] faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
(2) This whole book is concluded and made up by a confirmation, and a salutation. The confirmation has three parts: the words of the angel Re 22:15, the words of Christ, Re 22:16,17 and the supplication made by John from divine authority, Re 22:18-20. By the speech of the angel this prophecy is confirmed to Re 22:7,8, and then he speaks of the use of this book in the verses following. The prophecy is first confirmed by the angel from the nature of it, that it is faithful and true: Secondly, from the nature of the efficient cause, both principal, which is God, and instrumental, which is the angel in this verse. Thirdly, from the promises of God concerning his coming to effect all these things, and concerning our salvation; Re 22:7. Fourthly, from the testification of John himself; Re 22:8. The rest of the speech of the angel rending to the same end, John interrupted or broke off by his unadvised act of worshipping him, in the same verse, which the angel forbidding, teaches him that adoration must be given not to him, but only to God, as for himself, that he is of such nature and office, as he may not be adored: which thing also was in like manner done; Re 19:10.

PNT: 22:6 These sayings [are] faithful and true. The Visions of Revelation have now ended. What remains is intended to emphasize the sayings of the preceding chapters.

WES: 22:6 And he said to me - Here begins the conclusion of the book, exactly agreeing with the introduction, (particularly verse s 6, 7, 10, Rev 22:6,7,10 with chap. i. 1, 3,) Rev 1:1,3 and giving light to the whole book, as this book does to the whole scripture. These sayings are faithful and true - All the things which you have heard and seen shall be faithfully accomplished in their order, and are infallibly true. The Lord, the God of the holy prophets - Who inspired and authorised them of old. Hath now sent me his angel, to show his servants - By thee. The things which must be done shortly - Which will begin to be performed immediately.

MHC: 22:6-19 The Lord Jesus spake by the angel, solemnly confirming the contents of this book, particularly of this last vision. He is the Lord God faithful and true. Also by his messengers; the holy angels showed them to holy men of God. They are things that must shortly be done; Christ will come quickly, and put all things out of doubt. And by the integrity of that angel who had been the apostle's interpreter. He refused to accept religious worship from John, and reproved him for offering it. This presents another testimony against idolatrous worship of saints and angels. God calls every one to witness to the declarations here made. This book, thus kept open, will have effect upon men; the filthy and unjust will be more so, but it will confirm, strengthen, and further sanctify those who are upright with God. Never let us think that a dead or disobedient faith will save us, for the First and the Last has declared that those alone are blessed who do his commandments. It is a book that shuts out form heaven all wicked and unrighteous persons, particularly those who love and make lies, therefore cannot itself be a lie. There is no middle place or condition. Jesus, who is the Spirit of prophecy, has given his churches this morning-light of prophecy, to assure them of the light of the perfect day approaching. All is confirmed by an open and general invitation to mankind, to come and partake freely of the promises and of the privileges of the gospel. The Spirit, by the sacred word, and by convictions and influence in the sinner's conscience, says, Come to Christ for salvation; and the bride, or the whole church, on earth and in heaven, says, Come and share our happiness. Lest any should hesitate, it is added, Let whosoever will, or, is willing, come and take of the water of life freely. May every one who hears or reads these words, desire at once to accept the gracious invitation. All are condemned who should dare to corrupt or change the word of God, either by adding to it, or taking from it. Revelation 22:7

New American Standard Bible: "And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book."
God's Word Translation: I'm coming soon! Blessed is the one who follows the words of the prophecy in this book."
King James Version: Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
Bible in Basic English: See, I come quickly. A blessing on him who keeps the words of this book of the prophet.
Weymouth New Testament: 'I am coming quickly.' Blessed is he who is mindful of the predictions contained in this book."
World English Bible: "Behold, I come quickly. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."

Alphabetical: am And Behold Blessed book coming he heeds I in is keeps of prophecy quickly soon the this who words

PNT: 22:7 Behold, I come quickly. These words are repeated in Re 22:12,20. It is the coming of Christ that is meant. It may be that the reference is to his coming to work out the things which must shortly come to pass (Re 1:1), or he may refer to his final coming, which was not far away according to the divine measure.

Blessed [is] he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. Such an one will be found faithful when the Lord comes.

WES: 22:7 Behold, I come quickly - Saith our Lord himself, to accomplish these things. Happy is he that keepeth - Without adding or diminishing, verse s 18, 19, Rev 22:18,19 the words of this book.

MHC: Revelation 22:8

New American Standard Bible: I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
God's Word Translation: I, John, heard and saw these things. When I had heard and seen them, I bowed to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things.
King James Version: And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
Bible in Basic English: And I, John, am he who saw these things and to whose ears they came. And when I had seen and given ear, I went down on my face to give worship at the feet of the angel who made these things clear to me.
Weymouth New Testament: I John heard and saw these things; and when I had heard and seen them, I fell at the feet of the angel who was showing me them--to worship him.
World English Bible: Now I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who had shown me these things.

Alphabetical: am and angel at been down feet fell had heard I John me of one saw seen showed showing the them these things to when who worship

PNT: 22:8,9 I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel. On these two verses, see PNT Re 19:10. There John attempts to worship the angel and is prevented. Among the idolatrous tendencies that early showed themselves in the church was angel worship. This not only rebukes it, but the worship of any being, earthly or heavenly, who is not divine.

WES: 22:8 I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel - The very same words which occur, Rev 19:10. The reproof of the angel, likewise, See thou do it not, for I am thy fellowservant, is expressed in the very same terms as before. May it not be the very same incident which is here related again? Is not this far more probable, than that the apostle would commit a fault again, of which he had been so solemnly warned before?

MHC: Revelation 22:9

New American Standard Bible: But he said to me, "Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God."
God's Word Translation: He told me, "Don't do that! I am your coworker. I work with other Christians, the prophets, and those who follow the words in this book. Worship God!"
King James Version: Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
Bible in Basic English: And he said to me, See you do it not; I am a brother-servant with you and with your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book: give worship to God.
Weymouth New Testament: But he said to me, "Oh, do not do that. I am a fellow bondservant of yours, and a fellow bondservant of your brethren the Prophets and of those who are mindful of the teachings of this book. Worship God."
World English Bible: He said to me, "See you don't do it! I am a fellow bondservant with you and with your brothers, the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

WES: 22:9 See thou do it not - The expression in the original is short and elliptical, as is usual in showing vehement aversion.

MHC: Revelation 22:10

New American Standard Bible: And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.
God's Word Translation: Then the angel said to me, "Don't seal up the words of the prophecy in this book because the time is near.
King James Version: And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Bible in Basic English: And he said to me, Let not the words of this prophet's book be kept secret, because the time is near.
Weymouth New Testament: "Make no secret," he added, "of the meaning of the predictions contained in this book; for the time for their fulfillment is now close at hand.
World English Bible: He said to me, "Don't seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.

GSB: 22:10 {3} And he saith unto me, {4} Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
(3) The angel returns to his former speech: in which he teaches to use of this book both towards ourselves, in this and the next verse: and in respect of God for declaration of his truth, there to the fifteenth verse Re 22:11-15.
(4) That is, propound this prophecy openly to all and conceal no part of it. The contrary to that which is commanded in Isa 8:16, Da 8:26.

PNT: 22:10 Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book. To seal them would mean to conceal them and store them away. But they are not to be hidden.

For the time is at hand. The time had come for the fulfillment to begin.

WES: 22:10 And he saith to me - After a little pause. Seal not the sayings of this book - Conceal them not, like the things that are sealed up. The time is nigh - Wherein they shall begin to take place.

New American Standard Bible: "Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy."

GSB: 22:11 {5} He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
(5) An objection anticipated, but there will be some that will use this occasion for evil, and will wrest this scripture to their own destruction, as Peter says. What then? says the angel, the mysteries of God must not be concealed, which it has pleased him to communicate to us. Let them be harmful to others, let such be more and more vile in themselves, whom this scripture does not please: yet others will be further conformed to righteousness by this, and true holiness. The care and reformation of these may not be neglected, because of the voluntary and malicious offence of others.

PNT: 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still. This is not a command, but a warning. He that is fixed in injustice and unrighteousness, let him go on. The future judgments revealed in the preceding visions show that he shall reap that he has sown.

And he that is holy, let him be holy still. But the holy and true, let them be encouraged to press on; they have their reward. The reason that the saints may be sure of this is next given.

WES: 22:11 He that is unrighteous - As if he had said, The final judgment is at hand; after which the condition of all mankind will admit of no change for ever. Unrighteous - Unjustified. Filthy - Unsanctified, unholy.

GSB: 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, {7} that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
(7) The blessedness of the godly set down by their title and interest there: and their fruit in the same.

PNT: 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments. Blessed are they that wash their robes (Revised Version). Those who have their robes washed are those whose sins are forgiven, and who obey Christ. These have the right to enter the city, for no sinner can enter there.

WES: 22:14 Happy are they that do his commandments - His, who saith, I come - He speaks of himself. That they may have right - Through his gracious covenant. PNT: 22:15 For without [are] dogs. In an oriental city the dogs, an unclean animal, are seen in great numbers in the streets, and are a disagreeable feature. These are taken to represent one type of sinners. Others with different characteristics are also given.

And sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. All are without. None of them ever pass through the portals of the New Jerusalem.

WES: 22:15 Without are dogs - The sentence in the original is abrupt, as expressing abhorrence. The gates are ever open; but not for dogs; fierce and rapacious men.

GSB: 22:16 {8} I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star.
(8) The second passage of confirmation (as I said) is the speech of Christ ratifying the vocation of John, and the authority of his calling and testimony, both from the condition of his own person being God and man, in whom all the promises of God are Yea and Amen; 2Co 1:20 and also from the testimony of other people, by the acclamation of the Holy Spirit, who here is an honourable assistant of the marriage of the Church as the spouse: and of each of the godly as members; and finally from the thing present, that of their own knowledge and accord, they are called forth to the participation of the good things of God; Ge 22:17.

PNT: 22:16 I Jesus. The Lord is still Jesus, that is the Savior.

Have sent my angel to testify. See Re 1:1. Here at the close where the Lord speaks in personal communication to John, he speaks of himself by the name Jesus.
I am the root and the offspring of David. See Re 5:5.

WES: 22:16 I Jesus have sent my angel to testify these things - Primarily. To you - The seven angels of the churches; then to those churches - and afterwards to all other churches in succeeding ages. I - as God. Am the root - And source of David's family and kingdom; as man, an descended from his loins. I am the star out of Jacob, Num 24:17; like the bright morning star, who put an end to the night of ignorance, sin, and sorrow, and usher in an eternal day of light, purity, and joy.

Weymouth New Testament: The Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come;' and whoever hears, let him say, 'Come;' and let those who are thirsty come. Whoever will, let him take the Water of Life, without payment.
World English Bible: The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" He who hears, let him say, "Come!" He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Alphabetical: and bride Come cost free gift hears him is let life of one say Spirit take The thirsty water who Whoever wishes without

PNT: 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. Twice the Lord has said, I come quickly (Re 22:7,12). John repeats that the Lord saith, Surely I come quickly, in Re 22:20. The subject of these verses is the coming of the Lord. The Bridegroom has promised to come, and the Bride responds to the promise of the Bridegroom by inviting him to come. The church, filled with the Spirit, stands with hands extended, loving his appearance (2Ti 4:8), inviting the coming, and eager for the coming of the Lord.

And let him that heareth say, Come. Let all who have heard the gracious promise join in the invitation and say, Come.
And let him that is athirst come. Let all thirsty for the water of life come and partake of it freely.
Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. To will to come is the essential thing in order to coming to Christ.

WES: 22:17 The Spirit and the bride - The Spirit of adoption in the bride, in the heart of every true believer. Say - With earnest desire and expectation. Come - And accomplish all the words of this prophecy. And let him that thirsteth, come - Here they also who are farther off are invited. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life - He may partake of my spiritual and unspeakable blessings, as freely as he makes use of the most common refreshments; as freely as he drinks of the running stream.

MHC: Revelation 22:18

New American Standard Bible: I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
God's Word Translation: I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy in this book: If anyone adds anything to this, God will strike him with the plagues that are written in this book.
King James Version: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Bible in Basic English: For I say to every man to whose ears have come the words of this prophet's book, If any man makes an addition to them, God will put on him the punishments which are in this book:
Weymouth New Testament: "I solemnly declare to every one who hears the words of the prophecy contained in this book, that if any one adds to those words, God will add to him the plagues spoken of in this book;

GSB: 22:18 {9} For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
(9) The supplication of John (which is the third part of the confirmation) joined with a curse of abhorrence, to preserve the truth of this book entire and uncorrupted in two verses.

PNT: 22:18 If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. See De 4:2 12:32 The whole spirit of the Scripture is against adding to or taking from the Lord's words. This is a warning against spurious revelations.

WES: 22:18-19 I testify to every one, and c. - From the fulness of his heart, the apostle utters this testimony, this weighty admonition, not only to the churches of Asia, but to all who should ever hear this book. He that adds, all the plagues shall be added to him; he that takes from it, all the blessings shall be taken from him; and, doubtless, this guilt is incurred by all those who lay hinderances in the way of the faithful, which prevent them from hearing their Lord's I come, and answering, Come, Lord Jesus. This may likewise be considered as an awful sanction, given to the whole New Testament; in like manner as Moses guarded the law, Deut 4:2, and Deut 12:32; and as God himself did, Mal 4:4, in closing the canon of the Old Testament.

MHC: Revelation 22:19

New American Standard Bible: and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
God's Word Translation: If anyone takes away any words from this book of prophecy, God will take away his portion of the tree of life and the holy city that are described in this book.
King James Version: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Bible in Basic English: And if any man takes away from the words of this book, God will take away from him his part in the tree of life and the holy town, even the things which are in this book.
Weymouth New Testament: and that if any one takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take from him his share in the Tree of Life and in the holy city--the things described in this book.
World English Bible: If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, may God take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.

Alphabetical: And anyone are away book city described from God him his holy if in life of part prophecy share take takes the this tree which will words written

PNT: 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy. This could be done by denying, or explaining away the words of prophecy. To do either is a deadly sin. Indeed, to tamper with the Divine word in any way is sinful.

(10) A divine confirmation or sealing of the supplication first from Christ affirming the same and denouncing his coming against all those that will put their sacrilegious hands here: then from John himself, who by a most holy prayer calls Christ to take vengeance on them.

PNT: 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. It is John who now speaks and exults that the Lord has promised soon to come.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus. He adds his prayer for the coming.

WES: 22:20 He that testifieth these things - Even all that is contained in this book. Saith - For the encouragement of the church in all her afflictions. Yea - Answering the call of the Spirit and the bride. I come quickly - To destroy all her enemies, and establish her in a state of perfect and everlasting happiness. The apostle expresses his earnest desire and hope of this, by answering, Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

MHC: 22:20,21 After discovering these things to his people on earth, Christ seems to take leave of them, and return to heaven; but he assures them it shall not be long before he comes again. And while we are busy in the duties of our different stations of life; whatever labours may try us, whatever difficulties may surround us, whatever sorrows may press us down, let us with pleasure hear our Lord proclaiming, Behold, I come quickly; I come to put an end to the labour and suffering of my servants. I come, and my reward of grace is with me, to recompense, with royal bounty, every work of faith and labour of love. I come to receive my faithful, persevering people to myself, to dwell for ever in that blissful world. Amen, even so, come, Lord Jesus. A blessing closes the whole. By the grace of Christ we must be kept in joyful expectation of his glory, fitted for it, and preserved to it; and his glorious appearance will be joyful to those who partake of his grace and favour here. Let all add, Amen. Let us earnestly thirst after greater measures of the gracious influences of the blessed Jesus in our souls, and his gracious presence with us, till glory has made perfect his grace toward us. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Revelation 22:21
