A Call to Prayer
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;1 I desire therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men: 1 I exhort, then, first of all, there be made supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for all men:
2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.2 For kings, and for all that are in high station: that we may lead a quiet and a peaceable life in all piety and chastity. 2 for kings, and all who are in authority, that a quiet and peaceable life we may lead in all piety and gravity,
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, 3 for this is right and acceptable before God our Saviour,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 4 who doth will all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth;
5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;5 For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus,5 For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus: 5 for one is God, one also is mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.6 who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;6 Who gave himself a redemption for all, a testimony in due times. 6 who did give himself a ransom for all -- the testimony in its own times --
7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.7 whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth, I lie not), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher and an apostle, (I say the truth, I lie not,) a doctor of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 in regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle -- truth I say in Christ, I do not lie -- a teacher of nations, in faith and truth.
8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.8 I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.8 I will therefore that men pray in every place, lifting up pure hands, without anger and contention. 8 I wish, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up kind hands, apart from anger and reasoning;
Women Instructed
9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;9 In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment;9 In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire, 9 in like manner also the women, in becoming apparel, with modesty and sobriety to adorn themselves, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or garments of great price,
10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.10 but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.10 But as it becometh women professing godliness, with good works. 10 but -- which becometh women professing godly piety -- through good works.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.11 Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.11 Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection. 11 Let a woman in quietness learn in all subjection,
12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.12 But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence. 12 and a woman I do not suffer to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness,
13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve;13 For Adam was first formed; then Eve. 13 for Adam was first formed, then Eve,
14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.14 and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression:14 And Adam was not seduced; but the woman being seduced, was in the transgression. 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, into transgression came,
15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.15 but she shall be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.15 Yet she shall be saved through childbearing; if she continue in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety. 15 and she shall be saved through the child-bearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.
