Paul Defends His Apostleship | ||||
NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me. | 1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. | 1 Would that ye could bear with me in a little foolishness: but indeed ye do bear with me. | 1 Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. | 1 O that ye were bearing with me a little of the folly, but ye also do bear with me: | 2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. | 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. | 2 For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy: for I espoused you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. | 2 For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. | 2 for I am zealous for you with zeal of God, for I did betroth you to one husband, a pure virgin, to present to Christ, | 3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. | 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. | 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity and the purity that is toward Christ. | 3 But I fear lest, as the serpent seduced Eve by his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted, and fall from the simplicity that is in Christ. | 3 and I fear, lest, as the serpent did beguile Eve in his subtilty, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in the Christ; | 4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. | 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. | 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if ye receive a different spirit, which ye did not receive, or a different gospel, which ye did not accept, ye do well to bear with him . | 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Christ, whom we have not preached; or if you receive another Spirit, whom you have not received; or another gospel which you have not received; you might well bear with him. | 4 for if, indeed, he who is coming doth preach another Jesus whom we did not preach, or another Spirit ye receive which ye did not receive, or other good news which ye did not accept -- well were ye bearing it, | 5 For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles. | 5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. | 5 For I reckon that I am not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. | 5 For I suppose that I have done nothing less than the great apostles. | 5 for I reckon that I have been nothing behind the very chiefest apostles, | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 But even if I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not so in knowledge; in fact, in every way we have made this evident to you in all things. | 6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things. | 6 But though I be rude in speech, yet am I not in knowledge; nay, in every way have we made this manifest unto you in all things. | 6 For although I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but in all things we have been made manifest to you. | 6 and even if unlearned in word -- yet not in knowledge, but in every thing we were made manifest in all things to you. | 7 Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge? | 7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? | 7 Or did I commit a sin in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God for nought? | 7 Or did I commit a fault, humbling myself, that you might be exalted? Because I preached unto you the gospel of God freely? | 7 The sin did I do -- myself humbling that ye might be exalted, because freely the good news of God I did proclaim to you? | 8 I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; | 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. | 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them that I might minister unto you; | 8 I have taken from other churches, receiving wages of them for your ministry. | 8 other assemblies I did rob, having taken wages, for your ministration; | 9 and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so. | 9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. | 9 and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man; for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and'so will I keep myself . | 9 And, when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was wanting to me, the brethren supplied who came from Macedonia; and in all things I have kept myself from being burthensome to you, and so I will keep myself. | 9 and being present with you, and having been in want, I was chargeable to no one, for my lack did the brethren supply -- having come from Macedonia -- and in everything burdenless to you I did keep myself, and will keep. | 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped in the regions of Achaia. | 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia. | 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this glorying in the regions of Achaia. | 10 The truth of Christ is in me, that this glorying shall not be broken off in me in the regions of Achaia. | 10 The truth of Christ is in me, because this boasting shall not be stopped in regard to me in the regions of Achaia; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do! | 11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth. | 11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth. | 11 Wherefore? Because I love you not? God knoweth it. | 11 wherefore? because I do not love you? God hath known! | 12 But what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may cut off opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting. | 12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. | 12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them that desire an occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. | 12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off the occasion from them that desire occasion, that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. | 12 and what I do, I also will do, that I may cut off the occasion of those wishing an occasion, that in that which they boast they may be found according as we also; | 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. | 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. | 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. | 13 For such false apostles are deceitful workmen, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. | 13 for those such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ, | 14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. | 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. | 14 And no marvel; for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light. | 14 And no wonder: for Satan himself transformeth himself into an angel of light. | 14 and no wonder -- for even the Adversary doth transform himself into a messenger of light; | 15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. | 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. | 15 It is no great thing therefore if his ministers also fashion themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works. | 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers be transformed as the ministers of justice, whose end shall be according to their works. | 15 no great thing, then, if also his ministrants do transform themselves as ministrants of righteousness -- whose end shall be according to their works. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 16 Again I say, let no one think me foolish; but if you do, receive me even as foolish, so that I also may boast a little. | 16 I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little. | 16 I say again, let no man think me foolish; but if ye do , yet as foolish receive me, that I also may glory a little. | 16 I say again, (let no man think me to be foolish, otherwise take me as one foolish, that I also may glory a little.) | 16 Again I say, may no one think me to be a fool; and if otherwise, even as a fool receive me, that I also a little may boast. | 17 What I am saying, I am not saying as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting. | 17 That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. | 17 That which I speak, I speak not after the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of glorying. | 17 That which I speak, I speak not according to God, but as it were in foolishness, in this matter of glorying. | 17 That which I speak, I speak not according to the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this the confidence of boasting; | 18 Since many boast according to the flesh, I will boast also. | 18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. | 18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. | 18 Seeing that many glory according to the flesh, I will glory also. | 18 since many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast: | 19 For you, being so wise, tolerate the foolish gladly. | 19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. | 19 For ye bear with the foolish gladly, being wise yourselves . | 19 For you gladly suffer the foolish; whereas yourselves are wise. | 19 for gladly do ye bear with the fools -- being wise, | 20 For you tolerate it if anyone enslaves you, anyone devours you, anyone takes advantage of you, anyone exalts himself, anyone hits you in the face. | 20 For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face. | 20 For ye bear with a man, if he bringeth you into bondage, if he devoureth you, if he taketh you captive , if he exalteth himself, if he smiteth you on the face. | 20 For you suffer if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take from you, if a man be lifted up, if a man strike you on the face. | 20 for ye bear, if any one is bringing you under bondage, if any one doth devour, if any one doth take away, if any one doth exalt himself, if any one on the face doth smite you; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 21 To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison. But in whatever respect anyone else is bold-- I speak in foolishness-- I am just as bold myself. | 21 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. | 21 I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet whereinsoever any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also. | 21 I speak according to dishonour, as if we had been weak in this part. Wherein if any man dare (I speak foolishly), I dare also. | 21 in reference to dishonour I speak, how that we were weak, and in whatever any one is bold -- in foolishness I say it -- I also am bold. | 22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I. | 22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. | 22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. | 22 They are Hebrews: so am I. They are Israelites: so am I. They are the seed of Abraham: so am I. | 22 Hebrews are they? I also! Israelites are they? I also! seed of Abraham are they? I also! | 23 Are they servants of Christ?-- I speak as if insane-- I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. | 23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. | 23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I more; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths oft. | 23 They are the ministers of Christ (I speak as one less wise): I am more; in many more labours, in prisons more frequently, in stripes above measure, in deaths often. | 23 ministrants of Christ are they? -- as beside myself I speak -- I more; in labours more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths many times; | 24 Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. | 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. | 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty'stripes'save one. | 24 Of the Jews five times did I receive forty stripes, save one. | 24 from Jews five times forty stripes save one I did receive; | 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. | 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; | 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep; | 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I was in the depth of the sea. | 25 thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice was I shipwrecked, a night and a day in the deep I have passed; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 26 I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; | 26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; | 26 in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my countrymen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; | 26 In journeying often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own nation, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils from false brethren. | 26 journeyings many times, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from kindred, perils from nations, perils in city, perils in wilderness, perils in sea, perils among false brethren; | 27 I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. | 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. | 27 in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. | 27 In labour and painfulness, in much watchings, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. | 27 in labouriousness and painfulness, in watchings many times, in hunger and thirst, in fastings many times, in cold and nakedness; | 28 Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. | 28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. | 28 Besides those things that are without, there is that which presseth upon me daily, anxiety for all the churches. | 28 Besides those things which are without: my daily instance, the solicitude for all the churches. | 28 apart from the things without -- the crowding upon me that is daily -- the care of all the assemblies. | 29 Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern? | 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? | 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is caused to stumble, and I burn not? | 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is scandalized, and I am not on fire? | 29 Who is infirm, and I am not infirm? who is stumbled, and I am not fired; | 30 If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness. | 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. | 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things that concern my weakness. | 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things that concern my infirmity. | 30 if to boast it behoveth me, of the things of my infirmity I will boast; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying. | 31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not. | 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for evermore knoweth that I lie not. | 31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed for ever, knoweth that I lie not. | 31 the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ -- who is blessed to the ages -- hath known that I do not lie! -- | 32 In Damascus the ethnarch under Aretas the king was guarding the city of the Damascenes in order to seize me, | 32 In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me: | 32 In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king guarded the city of the Damascenes in order to take me: | 32 At Damascus, the governor of the nation under Aretas the king, guarded the city of the Damascenes, to apprehend me. | 32 In Damascus the ethnarch of Aretas the king was watching the city of the Damascenes, wishing to seize me, | 33 and I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and so escaped his hands. | 33 And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands. | 33 and through a window was I let down in a basket by the wall, and escaped his hands. | 33 And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and so escaped his hands. | 33 and through a window in a rope basket I was let down, through the wall, and fled out of his hands. |
