God’s Controversy with Israel
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Listen to the word of the LORD, O sons of Israel, For the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no faithfulness or kindness Or knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord shall enter into judgment with the inhabitants of the land: for there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God in the land. 1 Hear a word of Jehovah, sons of Israel, For a strife is to Jehovah with inhabitants of the land, For there is no truth, nor kindness, Nor knowledge of God, in the land,
2 There is swearing, deception, murder, stealing and adultery. They employ violence, so that bloodshed follows bloodshed.2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.2 There is nought but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood toucheth blood.2 Cursing, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery have overflowed, and blood hath touched blood. 2 Swearing, and lying, and murdering, And stealing, and committing adultery -- have increased, And blood against blood hath touched.
3 Therefore the land mourns, And everyone who lives in it languishes Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky, And also the fish of the sea disappear.3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth in it shall languish with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air: yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be gathered together. 3 Therefore mourn doth the land, And weak is every dweller in it, With the beast of the field, And with the fowl of the heavens, And the fishes of the sea -- they are removed.
4 Yet let no one find fault, and let none offer reproof; For your people are like those who contend with the priest.4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.4 Yet let no man strive, neither let any man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.4 But yet let not any man judge: and let not a man be rebuked: for thy people are as they that contradict the priest. 4 Only, let no one strive, nor reprove a man, And thy people are as those striving with a priest.
5 So you will stumble by day, And the prophet also will stumble with you by night; And I will destroy your mother.5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.5 And thou shalt stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother.5 And thou shalt fall to day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee: in the night I have made thy mother to be silent. 5 And thou hast stumbled in the day, And stumbled hath also a prophet with thee in the night, And I have cut off thy mother.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.6 My people have been silent, because they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee, that thou shalt not do the office of priesthood to me: and thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. 6 Cut off have been My people for lack of knowledge, Because thou knowledge hast rejected, I reject thee from being priest to Me, And thou forgettest the law of thy God, I forget thy sons, I also!
7 The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.7 According to the multitude of them so have they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. 7 According to their abundance so they sinned against Me, Their honour into shame I change.
8 They feed on the sin of My people And direct their desire toward their iniquity.8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.8 They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.8 They shall eat the sins of my people, and shall lift up their souls to their iniquity. 8 The sin of My people they do eat, And unto their iniquity lift up their soul.
9 And it will be, like people, like priest; So I will punish them for their ways And repay them for their deeds.9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.9 And it shall be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will requite them their doings.9 And there shall be like people like priest: and I will visit their ways upon them, and I will repay them their devices. 9 And it hath been, like people, like priest, And I have charged on it its ways, And its habitual doings I return to it.
10 They will eat, but not have enough; They will play the harlot, but not increase, Because they have stopped giving heed to the LORD.10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.10 And they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall play the harlot, and shall not increase; because they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.10 And they shall eat and shall not be filled: they have committed fornication, and have not ceased: because they have forsaken the Lord in not observing his law. 10 And they have eaten, and are not satisfied, They have gone a-whoring, and increase not, For they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 Harlotry, wine and new wine take away the understanding.11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the understanding.11 Fornication, and wine, and drunkenness take away the understanding. 11 Whoredom, and wine, and new wine, take the heart,
12 My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner's wand informs them; For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, And they have played the harlot, departing from their God.12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.12 My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredom hath caused them to err, and they have played the harlot, departing from under their God.12 My people have consulted their stocks, and their staff hath declared unto them: for the spirit of fornication hath deceived them, and they have committed fornication against their God. 12 My people at its staff asketh and its rod declareth to it, For a spirit of whoredoms hath caused to err, And they go a-whoring from under their God.
13 They offer sacrifices on the tops of the mountains And burn incense on the hills, Under oak, poplar and terebinth, Because their shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters play the harlot And your brides commit adultery.13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters play the harlot, and your brides commit adultery.13 They offered sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burnt incense upon the hills: under the oak, and the poplar, and the turpentine tree, because the shadow thereof was good: therefore shall your daughters commit fornication, and your spouses shall be adulteresses. 13 On tops of the mountains they do sacrifice, And on the hills they make perfume, Under oak, and poplar, and terebinth, For good is its shade.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot Or your brides when they commit adultery, For the men themselves go apart with harlots And offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes; So the people without understanding are ruined.14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for the men themselves go apart with harlots, and they sacrifice with the prostitutes; and the people that doth not understand shall be overthrown.14 I will not visit upon your daughters when they shell commit fornication, and upon your spouses when they shall commit adultery: because themselves conversed with harlots, and offered sacrifice with the effeminate, and the people that doth not understand shall be beaten. 14 Therefore commit whoredom do your daughters, And your spouses commit adultery, I do not see after your daughters when they commit whoredom, And after your spouses when they commit adultery, For they with the harlots are separated, And with the whores they do sacrifice, A people that doth not understand kicketh.
15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot, Do not let Judah become guilty; Also do not go to Gilgal, Or go up to Beth-aven And take the oath: "As the LORD lives!"15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As Jehovah liveth.15 If thou play the harlot, O Israel, at least let not Juda offend: and go ye not into Galgal, and come not up into Bethaven, and do not swear: The Lord liveth. 15 Though a harlot thou art, O Israel, Let not Judah become guilty, And come not ye in to Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-Aven, Nor swear ye, Jehovah liveth.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 Since Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn heifer, Can the LORD now pasture them Like a lamb in a large field?16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.16 For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.16 For Israel hath gone astray like a wanton heifer: now will the Lord feed them, as a lamb in a spacious place. 16 For as a refractory heifer hath Israel turned aside, Now doth Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.
17 Ephraim is joined to idols; Let him alone.17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.17 Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.17 Ephraim is a partaker with idols, let him alone. 17 Joined to idols is Ephraim, let him alone.
18 Their liquor gone, They play the harlot continually; Their rulers dearly love shame.18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.18 Their drink is become sour; they play the harlot continually; her rulers dearly love shame.18 Their banquet is separated, they have gone astray by fornication: they that should have protected them have loved to bring shame upon them. 18 Sour is their drink, They have gone diligently a-whoring, Her protectors have loved shame thoroughly.
19 The wind wraps them in its wings, And they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices.19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.19 The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be put to shame because of their sacrifices.19 The wind hath bound them up in its wings, and they shall be confounded because of their sacrifices. 19 Distressed her hath wind with its wings, And they are ashamed of their sacrifices!
