| 1 The oracle concerning Tyre. Wail, O ships of Tarshish, For Tyre is destroyed, without house or harbor; It is reported to them from the land of Cyprus. | 1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. | 1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Kittim it is revealed to them. | 1 THE burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of the sea, for the house is destroyed, from whence they were wont to come: from the land of Cethim it is revealed to them. | 1 The Burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, For it hath been destroyed, Without house, without entrance, From the land of Chittim it was revealed to them. | 2 Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, You merchants of Sidon; Your messengers crossed the sea | 2 Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. | 2 Be still, ye inhabitants of the coast, thou whom the merchants of Sidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. | 2 Be silent, you that dwell in the island: the merchants of Sidon passing over the sea, have filled thee. | 2 Be silent, ye inhabitants of the isle, Trader of Zidon, passing the sea, they filled thee. | 3 And were on many waters. The grain of the Nile, the harvest of the River was her revenue; And she was the market of nations. | 3 And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations. | 3 And on great waters the seed of the Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue; and she was the mart of nations. | 3 The seed of the Nile in many waters, the harvest of the river is her revenue: and she is become the mart of the nations. | 3 And in many waters is the seed of Sihor, The harvest of the brook is her increase, And she is a mart of nations. | 4 Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea speaks, the stronghold of the sea, saying, "I have neither travailed nor given birth, I have neither brought up young men nor reared virgins." | 4 Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins. | 4 Be thou ashamed, O Sidon; for the sea hath spoken, the stronghold of the sea, saying, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, neither have I nourished young men, nor brought up virgins. | 4 Be thou ashamed, O Sidon: for the sea speaketh, even the strength of the sea, saying: I have not been in labour, nor have I brought forth, nor have I nourished up young men, nor brought up virgins. | 4 Be ashamed, O Zidon; for the sea spake, The strength of the sea, saying: 'I have not been pained, nor have I brought forth, Nor have I nourished young men, nor brought up virgins.' | 5 When the report reaches Egypt, They will be in anguish at the report of Tyre. | 5 As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. | 5 When the report cometh to Egypt, they shall be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. | 5 When it shall be heard in Egypt, they will be sorry when they shall hear of Tyre: | 5 As at the report of Egypt they are pained, So at the report of Tyre. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 Pass over to Tarshish; Wail, O inhabitants of the coastland. | 6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle. | 6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; wail, ye inhabitants of the coast. | 6 Pass over the seas, howl, ye inhabitants of the island. | 6 Pass over to Tarshish, howl, ye inhabitants of the isle, | 7 Is this your jubilant city, Whose origin is from antiquity, Whose feet used to carry her to colonize distant places? | 7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. | 7 Is this your joyous city , whose antiquity is of ancient days, whose feet carried her afar off to sojourn? | 7 Is not this your city, which gloried from of old in her antiquity? her feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. | 7 Is this your exulting one? From the days of old is her antiquity, Carry her do her own feet afar off to sojourn. | 8 Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, Whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth? | 8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth? | 8 Who hath purposed this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earth? | 8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, that was formerly crowned, whose merchants were princes, and her traders the nobles of the earth? | 8 Who hath counselled this against Tyre, The crowning one, whose traders are princes, Her merchants the honoured of earth?' | 9 The LORD of hosts has planned it, to defile the pride of all beauty, To despise all the honored of the earth. | 9 The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth. | 9 Jehovah of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. | 9 The Lord of hosts hath designed it, to pull down the pride of all glory, and bring to disgrace all the glorious ones of the earth. | 9 Jehovah of Hosts hath counselled it, To pollute the excellency of all beauty, To make light all the honoured of earth. | 10 Overflow your land like the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish, There is no more restraint. | 10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength. | 10 Pass through thy land as the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no restraint any more. | 10 Pass thy land as a river, O daughter of the sea, thou hast a girdle no more. | 10 Pass through thy land as a brook, Daughter of Tarshish, there is no more a girdle. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 He has stretched His hand out over the sea, He has made the kingdoms tremble; The LORD has given a command concerning Canaan to demolish its strongholds. | 11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof. | 11 He hath stretched out his hand over the sea, he hath shaken the kingdoms: Jehovah hath given commandment concerning Canaan, to destroy the strongholds thereof. | 11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he troubled kingdoms: the Lord hath given a charge against Chanaan, to destroy the strong ones thereof. | 11 His hand He hath stretched out over the sea, He hath caused kingdoms to tremble, Jehovah hath charged concerning the merchant one, To destroy her strong places. | 12 He has said, "You shall exult no more, O crushed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest." | 12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest. | 12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon: arise, pass over to Kittim; even there shalt thou have no rest. | 12 And he said: Thou shalt glory no more, O virgin daughter of Sidon, who art oppressed: arise and sail over to Cethim, there also thou shalt have no, rest. | 12 And He saith, 'Thou dost not add any more to exult, O oppressed one, virgin daughter of Zidon, To Chittim arise, pass over, Even there -- there is no rest for thee.' | 13 Behold, the land of the Chaldeans-- this is the people which was not; Assyria appointed it for desert creatures-- they erected their siege towers, they stripped its palaces, they made it a ruin. | 13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin. | 13 Behold, the land of the Chaldeans: this people was not; the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness; they set up their towers; they overthrew the palaces thereof; they made it a ruin. | 13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans, there was not such a people, the Assyrian founded it: they have led away the strong ones thereof into captivity, they have destroyed the houses thereof, they have brought it to ruin. | 13 Lo, the land of the Chaldeans -- this people was not, Asshur founded it for the Ziim, They raised its watch-towers, They lifted up her palaces, -- He hath appointed her for a ruin! | 14 Wail, O ships of Tarshish, For your stronghold is destroyed. | 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste. | 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for your stronghold is laid waste. | 14 Howl, O ye ships of the sea, for your strength is laid waste. | 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, For your strength hath been destroyed. | 15 Now in that day Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years like the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the harlot: | 15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. | 15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years it shall be unto Tyre as in the song of the harlot. | 15 And it shall come to pass in that day that thou, O Tyre, shalt be forgotten, seventy years, according to the days of one king: but after seventy years, there shall be unto Tyre as the song of a harlot. | 15 And it hath come to pass, in that day, That forgotten is Tyre seventy years, According to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years there is to Tyre as the song of the harlot. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 16 Take your harp, walk about the city, O forgotten harlot; Pluck the strings skillfully, sing many songs, That you may be remembered. | 16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. | 16 Take a harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. | 16 Take a harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten: sing well, sing many a song, that thou mayst be remembered. | 16 Take a harp, go round the city, O forgotten harlot, play well, Multiply song that thou mayest be remembered. | 17 It will come about at the end of seventy years that the LORD will visit Tyre. Then she will go back to her harlot's wages and will play the harlot with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. | 17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. | 17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that Jehovah will visit Tyre, and she shall return to her hire, and shall play the harlot with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. | 17 And it shall come to pass after seventy years, that the Lord will visit Tyre, and will bring her back again to her traffic: and she shall commit fornication again with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. | 17 And it hath come to pass, At the end of seventy years Jehovah inspecteth Tyre, And she hath repented of her gift, That she committed fornication With all kingdoms of the earth on the face of the ground. | 18 Her gain and her harlot's wages will be set apart to the LORD; it will not be stored up or hoarded, but her gain will become sufficient food and choice attire for those who dwell in the presence of the LORD. | 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. | 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to Jehovah: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before Jehovah, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. | 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be sanctified to the Lord: they shall not be kept in store, nor laid up: for her merchandise shall be for them that shall dwell before the Lord, that they may eat unto fulness, and be clothed for a continuance. | 18 And her merchandise and her gift have been holy to Jehovah, Not treasured up nor stored, For to those sitting before Jehovah is her merchandise, To eat to satiety, and for a lasting covering! |
