| 1 Then Job responded, | 1 And Job answered and said, | 1 Then Job answered and said, | 1 When Job answered, and said: | 1 And Job answereth and saith: -- | 2 "Truly then you are the people, And with you wisdom will die! | 2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. | 2 No doubt but ye are the people, And wisdom shall die with you. | 2 Are you then men alone, and shall wisdom die with you? | 2 Truly -- ye are the people, And with you doth wisdom die. | 3 "But I have intelligence as well as you; I am not inferior to you. And who does not know such things as these? | 3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these? | 3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yea, who knoweth not such things as these? | 3 I also have a heart as well as you: for who is ignorant of these things, which you know? | 3 I also have a heart like you, I am not fallen more than you, And with whom is there not like these? | 4 "I am a joke to my friends, The one who called on God and He answered him; The just and blameless man is a joke. | 4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. | 4 I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbor, I who called upon God, and he answered: The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock. | 4 He that is mocked by his friends as I, shall call upon God and he will hear him: for the simplicity of the just man is laughed to scorn. | 4 A laughter to his friend I am: 'He calleth to God, and He answereth him,' A laughter is the perfect righteous one. | 5 "He who is at ease holds calamity in contempt, As prepared for those whose feet slip. | 5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. | 5 In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; It is ready for them whose foot slippeth. | 5 The lamp despised in the thoughts of the rich, is ready for the time appointed. | 5 A torch -- despised in the thoughts of the secure Is prepared for those sliding with the feet. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 "The tents of the destroyers prosper, And those who provoke God are secure, Whom God brings into their power. | 6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly. | 6 The tents of robbers prosper, And they that provoke God are secure; Into whose hand God bringeth abundantly . | 6 The tabernacles of robbers abound, and they provoke God boldly; whereas it is he that hath given all into their hands: | 6 At peace are the tents of spoilers, And those provoking God have confidence, He into whose hand God hath brought. | 7 "But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you; And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. | 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: | 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell thee: | 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee: and the birds of the air, and they shall tell thee. | 7 And yet, ask, I pray thee, One of the beasts, and it doth shew thee, And a fowl of the heavens, And it doth declare to thee. | 8 "Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you; And let the fish of the sea declare to you. | 8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. | 8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. | 8 Speak to the earth, and it shall answer thee: and the fishes of the sea shall tell. | 8 Or talk to the earth, and it sheweth thee, And fishes of the sea recount to thee: | 9 "Who among all these does not know That the hand of the LORD has done this, | 9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? | 9 Who knoweth not in all these, That the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this, | 9 Who is ignorant that the hand of the Lord hath made all these things? | 9 'Who hath not known in all these, That the hand of Jehovah hath done this? | 10 In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind? | 10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. | 10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind? | 10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the spirit of all flesh of man. | 10 In whose hand is the breath of every living thing, And the spirit of all flesh of man.' | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 "Does not the ear test words, As the palate tastes its food? | 11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? | 11 Doth not the ear try words, Even as the palate tasteth its food? | 11 Doth not the ear discern words, and the palate of him that eateth, the taste? | 11 Doth not the ear try words? And the palate taste food for itself? | 12 "Wisdom is with aged men, With long life is understanding. | 12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. | 12 With aged men is wisdom, And in length of days understanding. | 12 In the ancient is wisdom, and in length of days prudence. | 12 With the very aged is wisdom, And with length of days understanding. | Job Speaks of the Power of God |

| 16 "With Him are strength and sound wisdom, The misled and the misleader belong to Him. | 16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his. | 16 With him is strength and wisdom; The deceived and the deceiver are his. | 16 With him is strength and wisdom: he knoweth both the deceiver, and him that is deceived. | 16 With Him are strength and wisdom, His the deceived and deceiver. | 17 "He makes counselors walk barefoot And makes fools of judges. | 17 He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools. | 17 He leadeth counsellors away stripped, And judges maketh he fools. | 17 He bringeth counsellors to a foolish end, and judges to insensibility. | 17 Causing counsellors to go away a spoil, And judges He maketh foolish. | 18 "He loosens the bond of kings And binds their loins with a girdle. | 18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle. | 18 He looseth the bond of kings, And he bindeth their loins with a girdle. | 18 He looseth the belt of kings, and girdeth their loins with a cord. | 18 The bands of kings He hath opened, And He bindeth a girdle on their loins. | 19 "He makes priests walk barefoot And overthrows the secure ones. | 19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty. | 19 He leadeth priests away stripped, And overthroweth the mighty. | 19 He leadeth away priests without glory, and overthroweth nobles. | 19 Causing ministers to go away a spoil And strong ones He overthroweth. | 20 "He deprives the trusted ones of speech And takes away the discernment of the elders. | 20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged. | 20 He removeth the speech of the trusty, And taketh away the understanding of the elders. | 20 He changeth the speech of the true speakers, and taketh away the doctrine of the aged. | 20 Turning aside the lip of the stedfast, And the reason of the aged He taketh away. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 21 "He pours contempt on nobles And loosens the belt of the strong. | 21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty. | 21 He poureth contempt upon princes, And looseth the belt of the strong. | 21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and relieveth them that were oppressed. | 21 Pouring contempt upon princes, And the girdle of the mighty He made feeble. | 22 "He reveals mysteries from the darkness And brings the deep darkness into light. | 22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death. | 22 He uncovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death. | 22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth up to light the shadow of death. | 22 Removing deep things out of darkness, And He bringeth out to light death-shade. | 23 "He makes the nations great, then destroys them; He enlarges the nations, then leads them away. | 23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. | 23 He increaseth the nations, and he destroyeth them: He enlargeth the nations, and he leadeth them captive. | 23 He multiplieth nations, and destroyeth them, and restoreth them again after they were overthrown. | 23 Magnifying the nations, and He destroyeth them, Spreading out the nations, and He quieteth them. | 24 "He deprives of intelligence the chiefs of the earth's people And makes them wander in a pathless waste. | 24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. | 24 He taketh away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. | 24 He changeth the heart of the princes of the people of the earth, and deceiveth them that they walk in vain where there is no way. | 24 Turning aside the heart Of the heads of the people of the land, And he causeth them to wander In vacancy -- no way! | 25 "They grope in darkness with no light, And He makes them stagger like a drunken man. | 25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. | 25 They grope in the dark without light; And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. | 25 They shall grope as in the dark, and not in the light, and he shall make them stagger like men that are drunk. | 25 They feel darkness, and not light, He causeth them to wander as a drunkard. |
