Job Tells of Earth’s Treasures
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 "Surely there is a mine for silver And a place where they refine gold.1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.1 Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine.1 Silver hath beginnings of its veins, and gold hath a place wherein it is melted. 1 Surely there is for silver a source, And a place for the gold they refine;
2 "Iron is taken from the dust, And copper is smelted from rock.2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.2 Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone.2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and stone melted with heat is turned into brass. 2 Iron from the dust is taken, And from the firm stone brass.
3 "Man puts an end to darkness, And to the farthest limit he searches out The rock in gloom and deep shadow.3 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.3 Man'setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.3 He hath set a time for darkness, and the end of all things he considereth, the stone also that is in the dark and the shadow of death. 3 An end hath he set to darkness, And to all perfection he is searching, A stone of darkness and death-shade.
4 "He sinks a shaft far from habitation, Forgotten by the foot; They hang and swing to and fro far from men.4 The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.4 He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.4 The flood divideth from the people that are on their journey, those whom the food of the needy man hath forgotten, and who cannot be come at. 4 A stream hath broken out from a sojourner, Those forgotten of the foot, They were low, from man they wandered.
5 "The earth, from it comes food, And underneath it is turned up as fire.5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.5 The land, out of which bread grew in its place, hath been overturned with fire. 5 The earth! from it cometh forth bread, And its under-part is turned like fire.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 "Its rocks are the source of sapphires, And its dust contains gold.6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.6 The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it hath dust of gold.6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and the clods of it are gold. 6 A place of the sapphire are its stones, And it hath dust of gold.
7 "The path no bird of prey knows, Nor has the falcon's eye caught sight of it.7 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:7 That path no bird of prey knoweth, Neither hath the falcon's eye seen it:7 The bird hath not known the path, neither hath the eye of the vulture beheld it. 7 A path -- not known it hath a ravenous fowl, Nor scorched it hath an eye of the kite,
8 "The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor has the fierce lion passed over it.8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.8 The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.8 The children of the merchants have not trodden it, neither hath the lioness passed by it. 8 Nor trodden it have the sons of pride, Not passed over it hath the fierce lion.
9 "He puts his hand on the flint; He overturns the mountains at the base.9 He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.9 He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.9 He hath stretched forth his hand to the flint, he hath overturned mountains from the roots. 9 Against the flint he sent forth his hand, He overturned from the root mountains.
10 "He hews out channels through the rocks, And his eye sees anything precious.10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.10 He cutteth out channels among the rocks; And his eye seeth every precious thing.10 In the rocks he hath cut out rivers, and his eye hath seen every precious thing. 10 Among rocks, brooks he hath cleaved, And every precious thing hath his eye seen.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 "He dams up the streams from flowing, And what is hidden he brings out to the light.11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.11 He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.11 The depths also of rivers he hath searched, and hidden things he hath brought forth to light. 11 From overflowing floods he hath bound, And the hidden thing bringeth out to light.
The Search for Wisdom Is Harder
12 "But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?12 But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?12 But where is wisdom to be found, and where is the place of understanding? 12 And the wisdom -- whence is it found? And where is this, the place of understanding?
13 "Man does not know its value, Nor is it found in the land of the living.13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living.13 Man knoweth not the price thereof, neither is it found in the land of them that live in delights. 13 Man hath not known its arrangement, Nor is it found in the land of the living.
14 "The deep says, 'It is not in me'; And the sea says, 'It is not with me.'14 The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.14 The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.14 The depth saith: It is not in me: and the sea saith: It is not with me. 14 The deep hath said, 'It is not in me,' And the sea hath said, 'It is not with me.'
15 "Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it, Nor can silver be weighed as its price.15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.15 It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.15 The finest gold shall not purchase it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it 15 Gold is not given for it, Nor is silver weighed -- its price.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 "It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, In precious onyx, or sapphire.16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire.16 It shall not be compared with the dyed colours of India, or with the most precious stone sardonyx, or the sapphire. 16 It is not valued with pure gold of Ophir, With precious onyx and sapphire,
17 "Gold or glass cannot equal it, Nor can it be exchanged for articles of fine gold.17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.17 Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.17 Gold or crystal cannot equal it, neither shall any vessels of gold be changed for it. 17 Not equal it do gold and crystal, Nor is its exchange a vessel of fine gold.
18 "Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned; And the acquisition of wisdom is above that of pearls.18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.18 High and eminent things shall not be mentioned in comparison of it: but wisdom is drawn out of secret places. 18 Corals and pearl are not remembered, The acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.
19 "The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, Nor can it be valued in pure gold.19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equal to it, neither shall it be compared to the cleanest dyeing. 19 Not equal it doth the topaz of Cush, With pure gold it is not valued.
20 "Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding?20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?20 Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? 20 And the wisdom -- whence doth it come? And where is this, the place of understanding?
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 "Thus it is hidden from the eyes of all living And concealed from the birds of the sky.21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens.21 It is hid from the eyes of all living. and the fowls of the air know it not. 21 It hath been hid from the eyes of all living. And from the fowl of the heavens It hath been hidden.
22 "Abaddon and Death say, 'With our ears we have heard a report of it.'22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.22 Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.22 Destruction and death have said: With our ears we have heard the fame thereof. 22 Destruction and death have said: 'With our ears we have heard its fame.'
23 "God understands its way, And He knows its place.23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.23 God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof.23 God understandeth the way of it, and he knoweth the place thereof. 23 God hath understood its way, And He hath known its place.
24 "For He looks to the ends of the earth And sees everything under the heavens.24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven;24 For he beholdeth the ends of the world: and looketh on all things that are under heaven. 24 For He to the ends of the earth doth look, Under the whole heavens He doth see,
25 "When He imparted weight to the wind And meted out the waters by measure,25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.25 To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.25 Who made a weight for the winds and weighed the waters by measure. 25 To make for the wind a weight, And the waters He meted out in measure.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
26 When He set a limit for the rain And a course for the thunderbolt,26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:26 When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;26 When he gave a law for the rain, and a way for the sounding storms. 26 In His making for the rain a limit, And a way for the brightness of the voices,
27 Then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out.27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.27 Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.27 Then he saw it, and declared, and prepared, and searched it. 27 Then He hath seen and declareth it, He hath prepared it, and also searched it out,
