Elihu Vindicates God’s Justice
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then Elihu continued and said,1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,1 And Eliu continued his discourse, and said : 1 And Elihu answereth and saith:
"Hear my words, you wise men, And listen to me, you who know.2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.2 Hear my words, ye wise men; And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.2 Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me : 2 Hear, O wise men, my words, And, O knowing ones, give ear to me.
"For the ear tests words As the palate tastes food.3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.3 For the ear trieth words, As the palate tasteth food.3 For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste. 3 For the ear doth try words, And the palate tasteth to eat.
"Let us choose for ourselves what is right; Let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let us choose for us that which is right: Let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let us choose to us judgment, and let us see among ourselves what is the best. 4 Judgment let us choose for ourselves, Let us know among ourselves what is good.
"For Job has said, 'I am righteous, But God has taken away my right;5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.5 For Job hath said, I am righteous, And God hath taken away my right:5 For Job hath said : I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment. 5 For Job hath said, 'I have been righteous, And God hath turned aside my right,
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Should I lie concerning my right? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar; My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.6 For in judging me there is a lie : my arrow is violent without any sin. 6 Against my right do I lie? Mortal is mine arrow -- without transgression.'
"What man is like Job, Who drinks up derision like water,7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?7 What man is like Job, Who drinketh up scoffing like water,7 What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water? 7 Who is a man like Job? He drinketh scoffing like water,
Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, And walks with wicked men?8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, And walketh with wicked men?8 Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men? 8 And he hath travelled for company With workers of iniquity, So as to go with men of wickedness.
"For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing When he is pleased with God.'9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing That he should delight himself with God.9 For he hath said : Man shall not please God, although he run with him. 9 For he hath said, 'It doth not profit a man, When he delighteth himself with God.'
"Therefore, listen to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Almighty to do wrong.10 Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.10 Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me : far from god be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty. 10 Therefore, O men of heart, hearken to me; Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Mighty to do perverseness:
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"For He pays a man according to his work, And makes him find it according to his way.11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.11 For the work of a man will he render unto him, And cause every man to find according to his ways.11 For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them. 11 For the work of man he repayeth to him, And according to the path of each He doth cause him to find.
"Surely, God will not act wickedly, And the Almighty will not pervert justice.12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.12 For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. 12 Yea, truly, God doth not do wickedly, And the Mighty doth not pervert judgment.
"Who gave Him authority over the earth? And who has laid on Him the whole world?13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?13 Who gave him a charge over the earth? Or who hath disposed the whole world?13 What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made? 13 Who hath inspected for Himself the earth? And who hath placed all the habitable world?
"If He should determine to do so, If He should gather to Himself His spirit and His breath,14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;14 If he set his heart upon himself, If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;14 If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself. 14 If He doth set on him His heart, His spirit and his breath unto Him He gathereth.
All flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust.15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.15 All flesh shall perish together, And man shall turn again unto dust.15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes. 15 Expire doth all flesh together, And man to dust returneth.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"But if you have understanding, hear this; Listen to the sound of my words.16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: Hearken to the voice of my words.16 If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said, and hearken to the voice of my words. 16 And if there is understanding, hear this, Give ear to the voice of my words.
"Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous mighty One,17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?17 Shall even one that hateth justice govern? And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?-17 Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just? 17 Yea, doth one hating justice govern? Or the Most Just dost thou condemn?
Who says to a king, 'Worthless one,' To nobles, 'Wicked ones';18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?18 Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile, Or to nobles, Ye are wicked;18 Who saith to the king : Thou art an apostate : who calleth rulers ungodly? 18 Who hath said to a king -- 'Worthless,' Unto princes -- 'Wicked?'
Who shows no partiality to princes Nor regards the rich above the poor, For they all are the work of His hands?19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.19 That respecteth not the persons of princes, Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor; For they all are the work of his hands.19 Who accepteth not the persons of princes : nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man : for all are the work of his hands. 19 That hath not accepted the person of princes, Nor hath known the rich before the poor, For a work of His hands are all of them.
"In a moment they die, and at midnight People are shaken and pass away, And the mighty are taken away without a hand.20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.20 In a moment they die, even at midnight; The people are shaken and pass away, And the mighty are taken away without hand.20 They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand. 20 In a moment they die, and at midnight Shake do people, and they pass away, And they remove the mighty without hand.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, And He sees all his steps.21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man, And he seeth all his goings.21 For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps. 21 For His eyes are on the ways of each, And all his steps He doth see.
 "There is no darkness or deep shadow Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity. 22 There is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;
"For He does not need to consider a man further, That he should go before God in judgment.23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.23 For he needeth not further to consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment.23 For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God. 23 For He doth not suffer man any more, To go unto God in judgment,
"He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place.24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out, And setteth others in their stead.24 He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead. 24 He breaketh the mighty -- no searching! And He appointeth others in their stead.
"Therefore He knows their works, And He overthrows them in the night, And they are crushed.25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works; And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.25 For he knoweth their works : and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed. 25 Therefore He knoweth their works, And He hath overturned by night, And they are bruised.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"He strikes them like the wicked In a public place,26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;26 He striketh them as wicked men In the open sight of others;26 He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight. 26 As wicked He hath stricken them, In the place of beholders.
Because they turned aside from following Him, And had no regard for any of His ways;27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:27 Because they turned aside from following him, And would not have regard in any of his ways:27 Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways : 27 Because that against right They have turned aside from after Him, And none of His ways have considered wisely,
So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him, And that He might hear the cry of the afflicted--28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, And he heard the cry of the afflicted.28 So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor. 28 To cause to come in unto Him The cry of the poor, And the cry of the afflicted He heareth.
When He keeps quiet, who then can condemn? And when He hides His face, who then can behold Him, That is, in regard to both nation and man?--29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:29 When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:29 For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men? 29 And He giveth rest, and who maketh wrong? And hideth the face, and who beholdeth it? And in reference to a nation and to a man, It is the same.
 So that godless men would not rule Nor be snares of the people.30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.30 That the godless man reign not, That there be none to ensnare the people.30 Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people? 30 From the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"For has anyone said to God, 'I have borne chastisement; I will not offend anymore;31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:31 For hath any said unto God, I have borne chastisement , I will not offend any more :31 Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn. 31 For unto God hath any said: 'I have taken away, I do not corruptly,
Teach me what I do not see; If I have done iniquity, I will not do it again '?32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.32 That which I see not teach thou me: If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?32 If I have erred, teach thou me : if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more. 32 Besides that which I see, shew Thou me, If iniquity I have done -- I do not add?'
"Shall He recompense on your terms, because you have rejected it? For you must choose, and not I; Therefore declare what you know.33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.33 Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it? For thou must choose, and not I: Therefore speak what thou knowest.33 Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I. : but if thou know any thing better, speak. 33 By thee doth He recompense, That thou hast refused -- That thou dost choose, and not I? And what thou hast known, speak.
"Men of understanding will say to me, And a wise man who hears me,34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.34 Men of understanding will say unto me, Yea, every wise man that heareth me:34 Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me. 34 Let men of heart say to me, And a wise man is hearkening to me.
'Job speaks without knowledge, And his words are without wisdom.35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.35 Job speaketh without knowledge, And his words are without wisdom.35 But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline. 35 Job -- not with knowledge doth he speak, And his words are not with wisdom.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
'Job ought to be tried to the limit, Because he answers like wicked men.36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.36 Would that Job were tried unto the end, Because of his answering like wicked men.36 My father, let Job be tried even to the end : cease not from the man of iniquity. 36 My Father! let Job be tried -- unto victory, Because of answers for men of iniquity,
'For he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God.'"37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin; He clappeth his hands among us, And multiplieth his words against God.37 Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us : and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches. 37 For he doth add to his sin, Transgression among us he vomiteth, And multiplieth his sayings to God.
