Elihu Claims to Speak for God
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"However now, Job, please hear my speech, And listen to all my words.1 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.1 Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech, And hearken to all my words.1 Hear therefore, O Job, my speeches, and hearken to all my words. 1 And yet, I pray thee, O Job, Hear my speech and to all my words give ear.
"Behold now, I open my mouth, My tongue in my mouth speaks.2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.2 Behold now, I have opened my mouth; My tongue hath spoken in my mouth.2 Behold now I have opened my mouth, let my tongue speak within my jaws. 2 Lo, I pray thee, I have opened my mouth, My tongue hath spoken in the palate.
"My words are from the uprightness of my heart, And my lips speak knowledge sincerely.3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.3 My words'shall utter the uprightness of my heart; And that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.3 My words are from my upright heart, and my lips shall speak a pure sentence. 3 Of the uprightness of my heart are my sayings, And knowledge have my lips clearly spoken.
"The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.4 The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.4 The spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life. 4 The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Mighty doth quicken me.
"Refute me if you can; Array yourselves before me, take your stand.5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.5 If thou canst, answer thou me; Set thy words in order before me, stand forth.5 If thou canst, answer me, and stand up against my face. 5 If thou art able -- answer me, Set in array before me -- station thyself.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"Behold, I belong to God like you; I too have been formed out of the clay.6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.6 Behold, I am toward God even as thou art: I also am formed out of the clay.6 Behold God hath made me as well as thee, and of the same clay I also was formed. 6 Lo, I am, according to thy word, for God, From the clay I -- I also, have been formed.
"Behold, no fear of me should terrify you, Nor should my pressure weigh heavily on you.7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, Neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.7 But yet let not my wonder terrify thee, and let not my eloquence be burdensome to thee. 7 Lo, my terror doth not frighten thee, And my burden on thee is not heavy.
"Surely you have spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the sound of your words:8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,8 Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the voice of thy words,'saying ,8 Now thou has said in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words : 8 Surely -- thou hast said in mine ears, And the sounds of words I hear:
'I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent and there is no guilt in me.9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.9 I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me:9 I am clean, and without sin : I am unspotted, and there is no iniquity in me. 9 Pure am I, without transgression, Innocent am I, and I have no iniquity.
'Behold, He invents pretexts against me; He counts me as His enemy.10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for his enemy:10 Because he hath found complaints against me, therefore he hath counted me for his enemy. 10 Lo, occasions against me He doth find, He doth reckon me for an enemy to Him,
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
'He puts my feet in the stocks; He watches all my paths.'11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, He marketh all my paths.11 He hath put my feet in the stocks, he hath observed all my paths. 11 He doth put in the stocks my feet, He doth watch all my paths.'
"Behold, let me tell you, you are not right in this, For God is greater than man.12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.12 Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just; For God is greater than man.12 Now this is the thing in which thou art not justified : I will answer thee, that God is greater than man. 12 Lo, in this thou hast not been righteous, I answer thee, that greater is God than man.
"Why do you complain against Him That He does not give an account of all His doings?13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.13 Why dost thou strive against him, For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?13 Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words? 13 Wherefore against Him hast thou striven, When for all His matters He answereth not?
"Indeed God speaks once, Or twice, yet no one notices it.14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.14 For God speaketh once, Yea twice, though man regardeth it not.14 God speaketh once, and repeateth not the selfsame thing the second time. 14 For once doth God speak, and twice, (He doth not behold it.)
"In a dream, a vision of the night, When sound sleep falls on men, While they slumber in their beds,15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falleth upon men, In slumberings upon the bed;15 By a dream in a vision by night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, and they are sleeping in their beds : 15 In a dream -- a vision of night, In the falling of deep sleep on men, In slumberings on a bed.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction,16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,16 Then he openeth the ears of men, And sealeth their instruction,16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn. 16 Then He uncovereth the ear of men, And for their instruction sealeth:
That He may turn man aside from his conduct, And keep man from pride;17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, And hide pride from man;17 That he may withdraw a man from the things he is doing, and may deliver him from pride. 17 To turn aside man from doing, And pride from man He concealeth.
He keeps back his soul from the pit, And his life from passing over into Sheol.18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, And his life from perishing by the sword.18 Rescuing his soul from corruption : and his life from passing to the sword. 18 He keepeth back his soul from corruption, And his life from passing away by a dart.
"Man is also chastened with pain on his bed, And with unceasing complaint in his bones;19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, And with continual strife in his bones;19 He rebuketh also by sorrow in the bed, and he maketh all his bones to wither. 19 And he hath been reproved With pain on his bed, And the strife of his bones is enduring.
So that his life loathes bread, And his soul favorite food.20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.20 So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty food.20 Bread becometh abominable to him in his life, and to his soul the meat which before he desired. 20 And his life hath nauseated bread, And his soul desirable food.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"His flesh wastes away from sight, And his bones which were not seen stick out.21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; And his bones that were not seen stick out.21 His flesh shall be consumed away, and his bones that were covered shall be made bare. 21 His flesh is consumed from being seen, And high are his bones, they were not seen!
"Then his soul draws near to the pit, And his life to those who bring death.22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, And his life to the destroyers.22 His soul hath drawn near to corruption, and his life to the destroyers. 22 And draw near to the pit doth his soul, And his life to those causing death.
"If there is an angel as mediator for him, One out of a thousand, To remind a man what is right for him,23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:23 If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show unto man what is right for him;23 If there shall be an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare man's uprightness, 23 If there is by him a messenger, An interpreter -- one of a thousand, To declare for man his uprightness:
Then let him be gracious to him, and say, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom';24 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.24 Then God is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.24 He shall have mercy on him, and shall say : Deliver him, that he may not go down to corruption : I have found wherein I may be merciful to him. 24 Then He doth favour him and saith, 'Ransom him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.'
Let his flesh become fresher than in youth, Let him return to the days of his youthful vigor;25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; He returneth to the days of his youth.25 His flesh is consumed with punishment, let him return to the days of his youth. 25 Fresher is his flesh than a child's, He returneth to the days of his youth.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Then he will pray to God, and He will accept him, That he may see His face with joy, And He may restore His righteousness to man.26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.26 He prayeth unto God, and he is favorable unto him, So that he seeth his face with joy: And he restoreth unto man his righteousness.26 He shall pray to God, and he will be gracious to him : and he shall see his face with joy, and he will render to man his justice. 26 He maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness.
"He will sing to men and say, 'I have sinned and perverted what is right, And it is not proper for me.27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;27 He singeth before men, and saith, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it profited me not:27 He shall look upon men, and shall say : I have sinned, and indeed I have offended, and I have not received what I have deserved. 27 He looketh on men, and saith, 'I sinned, And uprightness I have perverted, And it hath not been profitable to me.
'He has redeemed my soul from going to the pit, And my life shall see the light.'28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.28 He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit, And my life shall behold the light.28 He hath delivered his soul from going into destruction, that it may live and see the light. 28 He hath ransomed my soul From going over into the pit, And my life on the light looketh.'
"Behold, God does all these oftentimes with men,29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,29 Lo, all these things doth God work, Twice, yea thrice, with a man,29 Behold, all these things God worketh three times within every one. 29 Lo, all these doth God work, Twice -- thrice with man,
To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of life.30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.30 To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living.30 That he may withdraw their souls from corruption, and enlighten them with the light of the living. 30 To bring back his soul from the pit, To be enlightened with the light of the living.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
"Pay attention, O Job, listen to me; Keep silent, and let me speak.31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: Hold thy peace, and I will speak.31 Attend, Job, and hearken to me : and hold thy peace, whilst I speak. 31 Attend, O Job, hearken to me, Keep silent, and I -- I do speak.
"Then if you have anything to say, answer me; Speak, for I desire to justify you.32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify thee.32 But if thou hast any thing to say, answer me, speak : for I would have thee to appear just. 32 If there are words -- answer me, Speak, for I have a desire to justify thee.
"If not, listen to me; Keep silent, and I will teach you wisdom."33 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.33 If not, hearken thou unto me: Hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.33 And if thou have not, hear me : hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom. 33 If there are not -- hearken thou to me, Keep silent, and I teach thee wisdom.
