A Prayer for Mercy
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; Look, and see our reproach!1 Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.1 Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see our reproach.1 Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us: consider and behold our reproach. 1 Remember, O Jehovah, what hath befallen us, Look attentively, and see our reproach.
2 Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, Our houses to aliens.2 Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.2 Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, Our houses unto aliens.2 Our inheritance is turned to aliens: our houses to strangers. 2 Our inheritance hath been turned to strangers, Our houses to foreigners.
3 We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.3 We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.3 We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows.3 We are become orphans without a father: our mothers are as widows. 3 Orphans we have been -- without a father, our mothers are as widows.
4 We have to pay for our drinking water, Our wood comes to us at a price.4 We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.4 We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold unto us.4 We have drunk our water for money: we have bought our wood. 4 Our water for money we have drunk, Our wood for a price doth come.
5 Our pursuers are at our necks; We are worn out, there is no rest for us.5 Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.5 Our pursuers are upon our necks: We are weary, and have no rest.5 We were dragged by the necks, we were weary and no rest was given us. 5 For our neck we have been pursued, We have laboured -- there hath been no rest for us.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.6 We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.6 We have given the hand to the Egyptians, And to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.6 We have given our hand to Egypt, and to the Assyrians, that we might be satisfied with bread. 6 To Egypt we have given a hand, To Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
7 Our fathers sinned, and are no more; It is we who have borne their iniquities.7 Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.7 Our fathers sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities.7 Our fathers have sinned, and are not: and we have borne their iniquities. 7 Our fathers have sinned -- they are not, We their iniquities have borne.
8 Slaves rule over us; There is no one to deliver us from their hand.8 Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.8 Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand.8 Servants have ruled over us: there was none to redeem us out of their hand. 8 Servants have ruled over us, A deliverer there is none from their hand.
9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness.9 We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.9 We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness.9 We fetched our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the desert. 9 With our lives we bring in our bread, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
10 Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.10 Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.10 Our skin was burnt as an oven, by reason of the violence of the famine. 10 Our skin as an oven hath been burning, Because of the raging of the famine.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.11 They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.11 They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.11 They oppressed the women in Sion, and the virgins in the cities of Juda. 11 Wives in Zion they have humbled, Virgins -- in cities of Judah.
12 Princes were hung by their hands; Elders were not respected.12 Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.12 Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.12 The princes were hanged up by their hand: they did not respect the persons of the ancient. 12 Princes by their hand have been hanged, The faces of elders have not been honoured.
13 Young men worked at the grinding mill, And youths stumbled under loads of wood.13 They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.13 The young men bare the mill; And the children stumbled under the wood.13 They abused the young men indecently: and the children fell under the wood. 13 Young men to grind they have taken, And youths with wood have stumbled.
14 Elders are gone from the gate, Young men from their music.14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.14 The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music.14 The ancients have ceased from the gates: the young men from the choir of the singers. 14 The aged from the gate have ceased, Young men from their song.
15 The joy of our hearts has ceased; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.15 The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.15 The joy of our heart is ceased, our dancing is turned into mourning. 15 Ceased hath the joy of our heart, Turned to mourning hath been our dancing.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 The crown has fallen from our head; Woe to us, for we have sinned!16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!16 The crown is fallen from our head: Woe unto us! for we have sinned.16 The crown is fallen from our head woe to us, because we have sinned. 16 Fallen hath the crown from our head, Woe is now to us, for we have sinned.
17 Because of this our heart is faint, Because of these things our eyes are dim;17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.17 For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim;17 Therefore is our heart sorrowful, therefore are our eyes become dim, 17 For this hath our heart been sick, For these have our eyes been dim.
18 Because of Mount Zion which lies desolate, Foxes prowl in it.18 Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.18 For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk upon it.18 For mount Sion, because it is destroyed, foxes have walked upon it. 18 For the mount of Zion -- that is desolate, Foxes have gone up on it.
19 You, O LORD, rule forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.19 Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.19 Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever; Thy throne is from generation to generation.19 But thou, O Lord, shalt remain for ever, thy throne from generation to generation. 19 Thou, O Jehovah, to the age remainest, Thy throne to generation and generation.
20 Why do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, And forsake us so long time?20 Why wilt thou forget us for ever? why wilt thou forsake us for a long time? 20 Why for ever dost Thou forget us? Thou forsakest us for length of days!
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,21 Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned; Renew our days as of old.21 Convert us, O Lord, to thee, and we shall be converted: renew our days, as from the beginning. 21 Turn us back, O Jehovah, unto Thee, And we turn back, renew our days as of old.
22 Unless You have utterly rejected us And are exceedingly angry with us.22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us.22 But thou hast utterly rejected us, thou art exceedingly angry against us.22 For hast Thou utterly rejected us? Thou hast been wroth against us -- exceedingly?
