Contrast the Upright and the Wicked
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid.1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.1 Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish.1 He that loveth correction, loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is foolish. 1 Whoso is loving instruction, is loving knowledge, And whoso is hating reproof is brutish.
A good man will obtain favor from the LORD, But He will condemn a man who devises evil.2 A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.2 A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn.2 He that is good, shall draw grace from the Lord : but he that trusteth in his own devices doth wickedly. 2 The good bringeth forth favour from Jehovah, And the man of wicked devices He condemneth.
A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous will not be moved.3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.3 Men shall not be strengthened by wickedness: and the root of the just shall not be moved. 3 A man is not established by wickedness, And the root of the righteous is not moved.
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones.4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.4 A diligent woman is a crown to her husband: and she that doth things worthy of confusion, is a rottenness in his bones. 4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, And as rottenness in his bones is one causing shame.
The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.5 The thoughts of the righteous are just; But the counsels of the wicked are deceit.5 The thoughts of the just are judgments: and the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 5 The thoughts of the righteous are justice, The counsels of the wicked -- deceit.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, But the mouth of the upright will deliver them.6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.6 The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood: the mouth of the just shall deliver them. 6 The words of the wicked are: 'Lay wait for blood,' And the mouth of the upright delivereth them.
The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand.7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not; But the house of the righteous shall stand.7 Turn the wicked, and they shall not be: but the house of the just shall stand firm. 7 Overthrow the wicked, and they are not, And the house of the righteous standeth.
A man will be praised according to his insight, But one of perverse mind will be despised.8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.8 A man shall be known by his learning: but he that is vain and foolish, shall be exposed to contempt. 8 According to his wisdom is a man praised, And the perverted of heart becometh despised.
Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant Than he who honors himself and lacks bread.9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, Than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread.9 Better is the poor man that provideth for himself, than he that is glorious and wanteth bread. 9 Better is the lightly esteemed who hath a servant, Than the self-honoured who lacketh bread.
A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.10 The just regardeth the lives of his beasts: but the bowels of the wicked are cruel. 10 The righteous knoweth the life of his beast, And the mercies of the wicked are cruel.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.11 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; But he that followeth after vain persons is void of understanding.11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that pursueth idleness is very foolish. He that is delighted in passing his time over wine, leaveth a reproach in his strong holds. 11 Whoso is tilling the ground is satisfied with bread, And whoso is pursuing vanities is lacking heart,
The wicked man desires the booty of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit.12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men; But the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit .12 The desire of the wicked is the fortification of evil men: but the root of the just shall prosper. 12 The wicked hath desired the net of evil doers, And the root of the righteous giveth.
An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble.13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.13 In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; But the righteous shall come out of trouble.13 For the sins of the lips ruin draweth nigh to the evil mall: but the just shall escape out of distress. 13 In transgression of the lips is the snare of the wicked, And the righteous goeth out from distress.
A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his words, And the deeds of a man's hands will return to him.14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; And the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.14 By the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things, and according to the works of his hands it shall be repaid him. 14 From the fruit of the mouth is one satisfied with good, And the deed of man's hands returneth to him.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; But he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsels. 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, And whoso is hearkening to counsel is wise.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
A fool's anger is known at once, But a prudent man conceals dishonor.16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.16 A fool's vexation is presently known; But a prudent man concealeth shame.16 A fool immediately sheweth his anger: but he that dissembleth injuries is wise. 16 The fool -- in a day is his anger known, And the prudent is covering shame.
He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit.17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.17 He that uttereth truth showeth forth righteousness; But a false witness, deceit.17 He that speaketh that which he knoweth, sheweth forth justice: but he that lieth, is a deceitful witness. 17 Whoso uttereth faithfulness declareth righteousness, And a false witness -- deceit.
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.18 There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.18 There is that promiseth, and is pricked as it were with a sword of conscience: but the tongue of the wise is health. 18 A rash speaker is like piercings of a sword, And the tongue of the wise is healing.
Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment.19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever; But a lying tongue is but for a moment.19 The lip of truth shall be steadfast for ever: but he that is a hasty witness, frameth a lying tongue. 19 The lip of truth is established for ever, And for a moment -- a tongue of falsehood.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy.20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.20 Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; But to the counsellors of peace is joy.20 Deceit is in the heart of them that think evil things: but joy followeth them that take counsels of peace. 20 Deceit is in the heart of those devising evil, And to those counselling peace is joy.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
No harm befalls the righteous, But the wicked are filled with trouble.21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.21 There shall no mischief happen to the righteous; But the wicked shall be filled with evil.21 Whatsoever shall befall the just man. it shall not make him sad: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. 21 No iniquity is desired by the righteous, And the wicked have been full of evil.
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight.22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.22 Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; But they that deal truly are his delight.22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal faithfully please him. 22 An abomination to Jehovah are lying lips, And stedfast doers are his delight.
A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims folly.23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; But the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.23 A cautious man concealeth knowledge: and the heart of fools publisheth folly. 23 A prudent man is concealing knowledge, And the heart of fools proclaimeth folly.
The hand of the diligent will rule, But the slack hand will be put to forced labor.24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.24 The hand of the valiant shall bear rule: but that which is slothful, shall be under tribute. 24 The hand of the diligent ruleth, And slothfulness becometh tributary.
Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad.25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.25 Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad.25 Grief in the heart of a man shall bring him low, but with a good word he shall be made glad. 25 Sorrow in the heart of a man boweth down, And a good word maketh him glad.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, But the way of the wicked leads them astray.26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.26 The righteous is a guide to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked causeth them to err.26 He that neglecteth a loss for the sake of a friend, is just: but the way of the wicked shall deceive them. 26 The righteous searcheth his companion, And the way of the wicked causeth them to err.
A lazy man does not roast his prey, But the precious possession of a man is diligence.27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting; But the precious substance of men is to the diligent.27 The deceitful man shall not find gain: but the substance of a just man shall be precious gold. 27 The slothful roasteth not his hunting, And the wealth of a diligent man is precious.
In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.28 In the way of righteousness is life; And in the pathway thereof there is no death.28 In the path of justice is life: but the by-way leadeth to death. 28 In the path of righteousness is life, And in the way of that path is no death!
