An Appeal against the Devastation of the Land by the Enemy.A Maskil of Asaph. | ||||
NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 1 A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture? | 1 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? | 1 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? | 1 Understanding for Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off unto the end: why is thy wrath enkindled against the sheep of thy pasture? | 1 An Instruction of Asaph. Why, O God, hast Thou cast off for ever? Thine anger smoketh against the flock of Thy pasture. | 2 Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt. | 2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. | 2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast gotten of old, Which thou hast redeemed to be the tribe of thine inheritance; And mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. | 2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed: mount Sion in which thou hast dwelt. | 2 Remember Thy company. Thou didst purchase of old, Thou didst redeem the rod of Thy inheritance, This mount Zion -- Thou didst dwell in it. | 3 Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary. | 3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. | 3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual ruins, All the evil that the enemy hath done in the sanctuary. | 3 Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. | 3 Lift up Thy steps to the perpetual desolations, Everything the enemy did wickedly in the sanctuary. | 4 Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs. | 4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs. | 4 Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thine assembly; They have set up their ensigns for signs. | 4 And they that hate thee have made their boasts, in the midst of thy solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs, | 4 Roared have thine adversaries, In the midst of Thy meeting-places, They have set their ensigns as ensigns. | 5 It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees. | 5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. | 5 They seemed as men that lifted up Axes upon a thicket of trees. | 5 and they knew not both in the going out and on the highest top. As with axes in a wood of trees, | 5 He is known as one bringing in on high Against a thicket of wood -- axes. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers. | 6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers. | 6 And now all the carved work thereof They break down with hatchet and hammers. | 6 they have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down. | 6 And now, its carvings together With axe and hatchet they break down, | 7 They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name. | 7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground. | 7 They have set thy sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling-place of thy name by casting it to the ground. | 7 They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth. | 7 They have sent into fire Thy sanctuary, to the earth they polluted the tabernacle of Thy name, | 8 They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land. | 8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. | 8 They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether: They have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. | 8 They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land. | 8 They said in their hearts, 'Let us oppress them together,' They did burn all the meeting-places of God in the land. | 9 We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long. | 9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. | 9 We see not our signs: There is no more any prophet; Neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. | 9 Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more. | 9 Our ensigns we have not seen, There is no more a prophet, Nor with us is one knowing how long. | 10 How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever? | 10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? | 10 How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? | 10 How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever? | 10 Till when, O God, doth an adversary reproach? Doth an enemy despise thy name for ever? | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them! | 11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom. | 11 Why drawest thou back thy hand, even thy right hand? Pluck it out of thy bosom and consume them . | 11 Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever ? | 11 Why dost Thou turn back Thy hand, Even Thy right hand? From the midst of Thy bosom remove it. | 12 Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth. | 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. | 12 Yet God is my King of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth. | 12 But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth. | 12 And God is my king of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth. | 13 You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. | 13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. | 13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: Thou brakest the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters. | 13 Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters. | 13 Thou hast broken by Thy strength a sea -monster, Thou hast shivered Heads of dragons by the waters, | 14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. | 14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. | 14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces; Thou gavest him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness. | 14 Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians. | 14 Thou hast broken the heads of leviathan, Thou makest him food, For the people of the dry places. | 15 You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams. | 15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers. | 15 Thou didst cleave fountain and flood: Thou driedst up mighty rivers. | 15 Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers. | 15 Thou hast cleaved a fountain and a stream, Thou hast dried up perennial flowings. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 16 Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun. | 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. | 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: Thou hast prepared the light and the sun. | 16 Thine is the day, and thine is the night: thou hast made the morning light and the sun. | 16 Thine is the day, also Thine is the night, Thou hast prepared a light giver -- the sun. | 17 You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter. | 17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter. | 17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: Thou hast made summer and winter. | 17 Thou hast made all the borders of the earth: the summer and the spring were formed by thee. | 17 Thou hast set up all the borders of earth, Summer and winter Thou hast formed them. | 18 Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name. | 18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. | 18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Jehovah, And that a foolish people hath blasphemed thy name. | 18 Remember this, the enemy hath reproached the Lord: and a foolish people hath provoked thy name. | 18 Remember this -- an enemy reproached Jehovah, And a foolish people have despised Thy name. | 19 Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever. | 19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever. | 19 Oh deliver not the soul of thy turtle-dove unto the wild beast: Forget not the life of thy poor for ever. | 19 Deliver not up to beasts the souls that confess to thee: and forget not to the end the souls of thy poor. | 19 Give not up to a company, The soul of Thy turtle-dove, The company of Thy poor ones forget not for ever. | 20 Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. | 20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. | 20 Have respect unto the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of violence. | 20 Have regard to thy covenant: for they that are the obscure of the earth have been filled with dwellings of iniquity. | 20 Look attentively to the covenant, For the dark places of earth, Have been full of habitations of violence. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 21 Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name. | 21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. | 21 Oh let not the oppressed return ashamed: Let the poor and needy praise thy name. | 21 Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise thy name. | 21 Let not the oppressed turn back ashamed, Let the poor and needy praise Thy name, | 22 Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long. | 22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. | 22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: Remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee all the day. | 22 Arise, O God, judge thy own cause: remember thy reproaches with which the foolish man hath reproached thee all the day. | 22 Arise, O God, plead Thy plea, Remember Thy reproach from a fool all the day. | 23 Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually. | 23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually. | 23 Forget not the voice of thine adversaries: The tumult of those that rise up against thee ascendeth continually. | 23 Forget not the voices of thy enemies: the pride of them that hate thee ascendeth continually. | 23 Forget not the voice of Thine adversaries, The noise of Thy withstanders is going up continually! |
