Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?1 WHAT shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 1 What, then, shall we say? shall we continue in the sin that the grace may abound?
2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?2 God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?2 God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein? 2 let it not be! we who died to the sin -- how shall we still live in it?
3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?3 Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?3 Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death? 3 are ye ignorant that we, as many as were baptized to Christ Jesus, to his death were baptized?
4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.4 For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. 4 we were buried together, then, with him through the baptism to the death, that even as Christ was raised up out of the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we in newness of life might walk.
5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. 5 For, if we have become planted together to the likeness of his death, so also we shall be of the rising again;
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him , that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer. 6 this knowing, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of the sin may be made useless, for our no longer serving the sin;
7 for he who has died is freed from sin.7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.7 for he that hath died is justified from sin.7 For he that is dead is justified from sin. 7 for he who hath died hath been set free from the sin.
8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ: 8 And if we died with Christ, we believe that we also shall live with him,
9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.9 knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.9 Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him. 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised up out of the dead, doth no more die, death over him hath no more lordship;
10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.10 For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God.10 For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God: 10 for in that he died, to the sin he died once, and in that he liveth, he liveth to God;
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.11 Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.11 So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord. 11 so also ye, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to the sin, and living to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:12 Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof. 12 Let not then the sin reign in your mortal body, to obey it in its desires;
13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.13 neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God. 13 neither present ye your members instruments of unrighteousness to the sin, but present yourselves to God as living out of the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God;
14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.14 For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace. 14 for sin over you shall not have lordship, for ye are not under law, but under grace.
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid.15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 15 What then? shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? let it not be!
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?16 Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as'servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?16 Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are whom you obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto justice. 16 have ye not known that to whom ye present yourselves servants for obedience, servants ye are to him to whom ye obey, whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.17 But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered;17 But thanks be to God, that you were the servants of sin, but have obeyed from the heart, unto that form of doctrine, into which you have been delivered. 17 and thanks to God, that ye were servants of the sin, and -- were obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which ye were delivered up;
18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.18 and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.18 Being then freed from sin, we have been made servants of justice. 18 and having been freed from the sin, ye became servants to the righteousness.
19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as'servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as'servants to righteousness unto sanctification.19 I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity; so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification. 19 In the manner of men I speak, because of the weakness of your flesh, for even as ye did present your members servants to the uncleanness and to the lawlessness -- to the lawlessness, so now present your members servants to the righteousness -- to sanctification,
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.20 For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.20 For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice. 20 for when ye were servants of the sin, ye were free from the righteousness,
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.21 What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.21 What fruit therefore had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. 21 what fruit, therefore, were ye having then, in the things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those is death.
22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.22 But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end life everlasting. 22 And now, having been freed from the sin, and having become servants to God, ye have your fruit -- to sanctification, and the end life age-during;
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.23 For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord. 23 for the wages of the sin is death, and the gift of God is life age-during in Christ Jesus our Lord.
