Jacob Moves to Bethel
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.1 In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother. 1 And God saith unto Jacob, 'Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.'
2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods which are among you, and purify yourselves and change your garments;2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments:2 And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments. 2 And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who are with him, 'Turn aside the gods of the stranger which are in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments;
3 and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.3 and let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.3 Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey. 3 and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.'
4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which they had and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.4 And they gave unto Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hand, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.4 So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem. 4 And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that are in their hand, and the rings that are in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which is by Shechem;
5 As they journeyed, there was a great terror upon the cities which were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.5 And they journeyed: and a terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.5 And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away. 5 and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which are round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Beth-el), he and all the people that were with him.6 And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him. 6 And Jacob cometh in to Luz which is in the land of Canaan (it is Bethel), he and all the people who are with him,
7 He built an altar there, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed Himself to him when he fled from his brother.7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.7 And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el; because there God was revealed unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.7 And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother. 7 and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother.
8 Now Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; it was named Allon-bacuth.8 But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.8 And Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried below Beth-el under the oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bacuth.8 At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping. 8 And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name 'Oak of weeping.'
Jacob Is Named Israel
9 Then God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and He blessed him.9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.9 And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him, 9 And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him;
10 God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; You shall no longer be called Jacob, But Israel shall be your name." Thus He called him Israel.10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.10 Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel. 10 and God saith to him, 'Thy name is Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;' and He calleth his name Israel.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 God also said to him, "I am God Almighty; Be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, And kings shall come forth from you.11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;11 And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins. 11 And God saith to him, 'I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out;
12 "The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, And I will give the land to your descendants after you."12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.12 and the land which I gave unto Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.12 And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee. 12 and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac -- to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.'
13 Then God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.13 And God went up from him in the place where he spake with him.13 And he departed from him. 13 And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him.
14 Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spake with him, a pillar of stone: and he poured out a drink-offering thereon, and poured oil thereon.14 But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon: 14 And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil;
15 So Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, Bethel.15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth-el.15 And calling the name of that place Bethel. 15 and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor.16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.16 And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was still some distance to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.16 And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail, 16 And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing;
17 When she was in severe labor the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for now you have another son."17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; for now thou shalt have another son.17 By reason of her hard labor she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also. 17 and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, 'Fear not, for this also is a son for thee.'
18 It came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.18 And it came to pass, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.18 And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand. 18 And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin;
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem).19 So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, that is Bethlehem. 19 and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which is Bethlehem,
20 Jacob set up a pillar over her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.20 And Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave: the same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.20 And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulcher: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day. 20 and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which is the standing pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
