Job Says Friends Are Sorry Comforters
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Then Job answered,1 Then Job answered and said,1 Then Job answered and said,1 Then Job answered, and said: 1 And Job answereth and saith: --
2 "I have heard many such things; Sorry comforters are you all.2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.2 I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are ye all.2 I have often heard such things as these: you are all troublesome comforters. 2 I have heard many such things, Miserable comforters are ye all.
3 "Is there no limit to windy words? Or what plagues you that you answer?3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?3 Shall vain words have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?3 Shall windy words have no end? or is it any trouble to thee to speak? 3 Is there an end to words of wind? Or what doth embolden thee that thou answerest?
4 "I too could speak like you, If I were in your place. I could compose words against you And shake my head at you.4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.4 I also could speak as ye do; If your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join words together against you, And shake my head at you.4 I also could speak like you: and would God your soul were for my soul. I would comfort you also with words, and would wag my head over you. 4 I also, like you, might speak, If your soul were in my soul's stead. I might join against you with words, And nod at you with my head.
5 "I could strengthen you with my mouth, And the solace of my lips could lessen your pain.5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the solace of my lips would assuage your grief .5 I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as sparing you. 5 I might harden you with my mouth, And the moving of my lips might be sparing.
Job Says God Shattered Him
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 "If I speak, my pain is not lessened, And if I hold back, what has left me?6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?6 Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged; And though I forbear, what am I eased?6 But what shall I do? If I speak, my pain will not rest: and if I hold my peace, it will not depart from me. 6 If I speak, my pain is not restrained, And I cease -- what goeth from me?
7 "But now He has exhausted me; You have laid waste all my company.7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.7 But now he hath made me weary: Thou hast made desolate all my company.7 But now my sorrow hath oppressed me, and all my limbs are brought to nothing. 7 Only, now, it hath wearied me; Thou hast desolated all my company,
8 "You have shriveled me up, It has become a witness; And my leanness rises up against me, It testifies to my face.8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.8 And thou hast laid fast hold on me, which is a witness against me : And my leanness riseth up against me, It testifieth to my face.8 My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a false speaker riseth up against my face, contradicting me. 8 And Thou dost loathe me, For a witness it hath been, And rise up against me doth my failure, In my face it testifieth.
9 "His anger has torn me and hunted me down, He has gnashed at me with His teeth; My adversary glares at me.9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.9 He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.9 He hath gathered together his fury against me, and threatening me he hath gnashed with his teeth upon me: my enemy hath beheld me with terrible eyes. 9 His anger hath torn, and he hateth me, He hath gnashed at me with his teeth, My adversary sharpeneth his eyes for me.
10 "They have gaped at me with their mouth, They have slapped me on the cheek with contempt; They have massed themselves against me.10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me.10 They have opened their mouths upon me, and reproaching me they have struck me on the cheek, they are filled with my pains. 10 They have gaped on me with their mouth, In reproach they have smitten my cheeks, Together against me they set themselves.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 "God hands me over to ruffians And tosses me into the hands of the wicked.11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.11 God delivereth me to the ungodly, And casteth me into the hands of the wicked.11 God hath shut me up with the unjust man, and hath delivered me into the hands of the wicked. 11 God shutteth me up unto the perverse, And to the hands of the wicked turneth me over.
12 "I was at ease, but He shattered me, And He has grasped me by the neck and shaken me to pieces; He has also set me up as His target.12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.12 I was at ease, and he brake me asunder; Yea, he hath taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces: He hath also set me up for his mark.12 I that was formerly so wealthy, am all on a sudden broken to pieces: he hath taken me by my neck, he hath broken me, and hath set me up to be his mark. 12 At ease I have been, and he breaketh me, And he hath laid hold on my neck, And he breaketh me in pieces, And he raiseth me to him for a mark.
13 "His arrows surround me. Without mercy He splits my kidneys open; He pours out my gall on the ground.13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.13 His archers compass me round about; He cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; He poureth out my gall upon the ground.13 He hath compassed me round about with his lances, he hath wounded my loins, he hath not spared, and hath poured out my bowels on the earth. 13 Go round against me do his archers. He splitteth my reins, and spareth not, He poureth out to the earth my gall.
14 "He breaks through me with breach after breach; He runs at me like a warrior.14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach; He runneth upon me like a giant.14 He hath torn me with wound upon wound, he hath rushed in upon me like a giant. 14 He breaketh me -- breach upon breach, He runneth upon me as a mighty one.
15 "I have sewed sackcloth over my skin And thrust my horn in the dust.15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, And have laid my horn in the dust.15 I have sowed sackcloth upon my skin, and have covered my flesh with ashes. 15 Sackcloth I have sewed on my skin, And have rolled in the dust my horn.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 "My face is flushed from weeping, And deep darkness is on my eyelids,16 My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;16 My face is red with weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;16 My face is swollen with weeping, and my eyelids are dim. 16 My face is foul with weeping, And on mine eyelids is death-shade.
17 Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.17 Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.17 These things have I suffered without the iniquity of my hand, when I offered pure prayers to God. 17 Not for violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.
18 "O earth, do not cover my blood, And let there be no resting place for my cry.18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have no resting -place.18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, neither let my cry find a hiding place in thee. 18 O earth, do not thou cover my blood! And let there not be a place for my cry.
19 "Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And my advocate is on high.19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.19 Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And he that voucheth for me is on high.19 For behold my witness is in heaven, and he that knoweth my conscience is on high. 19 Also, now, lo, in the heavens is my witness, And my testifier in the high places.
20 "My friends are my scoffers; My eye weeps to God.20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.20 My friends scoff at me: But mine eye poureth out tears unto God,20 My friends are full of words: my eye poureth out tears to God. 20 My interpreter is my friend, Unto God hath mine eye dropped:
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 "O that a man might plead with God As a man with his neighbor!21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!21 That he would maintain the right of a man with God, And of a son of man with his neighbor!21 And O that a man might so be judged with God, as the son of man is judged with his companion! 21 And he reasoneth for a man with God, And a son of man for his friend.
22 "For when a few years are past, I shall go the way of no return.22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.22 For when a few years are come, I shall go the way whence I shall not return.22 For behold short years pass away and I am walking in a path by which l shall not return. 22 When a few years do come, Then a path I return not do I go.
