| 1 Then Job responded, | 1 But Job answered and said, | 1 Then Job answered and said, | 1 Then Job answered, and said: | 1 And Job answereth and saith: -- | 2 "What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm without strength! | 2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength? | 2 How hast thou helped him that is without power! How hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength! | 2 Whose helper art thou? is it of him that is weak? and dost thou hold up the arm of him that has no strength? | 2 What -- thou hast helped the powerless, Saved an arm not strong! | 3 "What counsel you have given to one without wisdom! What helpful insight you have abundantly provided! | 3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? | 3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, And plentifully declared sound knowledge! | 3 To whom hast thou given counsel? perhaps to him that hath no wisdom, and thou hast shewn thy very great prudence. | 3 What -- thou hast given counsel to the unwise, And wise plans in abundance made known. | 4 "To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit was expressed through you? | 4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee? | 4 To whom hast thou uttered words? And whose spirit came forth from thee? | 4 Whom hast thou desired to teach? was it not him that made life? | 4 With whom hast thou declared words? And whose breath came forth from thee? | The Greatness of God |
| 5 "The departed spirits tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants. | 5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. | 5 They that are deceased tremble Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof. | 5 Behold the giants groan under the waters, and they that dwell with them. | 5 The Rephaim are formed, Beneath the waters, also their inhabitants. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 "Naked is Sheol before Him, And Abaddon has no covering. | 6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering. | 6 Sheol is naked before God , And Abaddon hath no covering. | 6 Hell is naked before him, and there is no covering for destruction. | 6 Naked is Sheol over-against Him, And there is no covering to destruction. | 7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing. | 7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. | 7 He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing. | 7 He stretched out the north over the empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. | 7 Stretching out the north over desolation, Hanging the earth upon nothing, | 8 "He wraps up the waters in His clouds, And the cloud does not burst under them. | 8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. | 8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; And the cloud is not rent under them. | 8 He bindeth up the waters in his clouds, so that they break not out and fall down together. | 8 Binding up the waters in His thick clouds, And the cloud is not rent under them. | 9 "He obscures the face of the full moon And spreads His cloud over it. | 9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it. | 9 He incloseth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his cloud upon it. | 9 He withholdeth the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud over it. | 9 Taking hold of the face of the throne, Spreading over it His cloud. | 10 "He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters At the boundary of light and darkness. | 10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. | 10 He hath described a boundary upon the face of the waters, Unto the confines of light and darkness. | 10 He hath set bounds about the waters, till light and darkness come to an end. | 10 A limit He hath placed on the waters, Unto the boundary of light with darkness. | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 "The pillars of heaven tremble And are amazed at His rebuke. | 11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. | 11 The pillars of heaven tremble And are astonished at his rebuke. | 11 The pillars of heaven tremble, and dread at his beck. | 11 Pillars of the heavens do tremble, And they wonder because of His rebuke. | 12 "He quieted the sea with His power, And by His understanding He shattered Rahab. | 12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud. | 12 He stirreth up the sea with his power, And by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab. | 12 By his power the seas are suddenly gathered together, and his wisdom has struck the proud one. | 12 By His power He hath quieted the sea, And by His understanding smitten the proud. | 13 "By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. | 13 By his Spirit the heavens are garnished; His hand hath pierced the swift serpent. | 13 His spirit hath adorned the heavens, and his obstetric hand brought forth the winding serpent. | 13 By His Spirit the heavens He beautified, Formed hath His hand the fleeing serpent. | 14 "Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; And how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?" | 14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand? | 14 Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways: And how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand? | 14 Lo, these things are said in part of his ways: and seeing we have heard scarce a little drop of his word, who shall be able to behold the thunder of his greatness? | 14 Lo, these are the borders of His way, And how little a matter is heard of Him, And the thunder of His might Who doth understand? |
