Job Says There Is No Arbitrator between God and Man

1 Then Job answered,1 Then Job answered and said,1 Then Job answered and said,1 And Job answered, and said: 1 And Job answereth and saith: --
2 "In truth I know that this is so; But how can a man be in the right before God?2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?2 Of a truth I know that it is so: But how can man be just with God?2 Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with 2 Truly I have known that it is so, And what -- is man righteous with God?
3 "If one wished to dispute with Him, He could not answer Him once in a thousand times.3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.3 If he be pleased to contend with him, He cannot answer him one of a thousand.3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand. 3 If he delight to strive with Him -- He doth not answer him one of a thousand.
4 "Wise in heart and mighty in strength, Who has defied Him without harm?4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?-4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace ? 4 Wise in heart and strong in power -- Who hath hardened toward Him and is at peace?
5 "It is God who removes the mountains, they know not how, When He overturns them in His anger;5 Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.5 Him that removeth the mountains, and they know it not, When he overturneth them in his anger;5 Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath, knew it not. 5 Who is removing mountains, And they have not known, Who hath overturned them in His anger.

9 Who makes the Bear, Orion and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south;9 Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.9 That maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south;9 Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south. 9 Making Osh, Kesil, and Kimah, And the inner chambers of the south.
10 Who does great things, unfathomable, And wondrous works without number.10 Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.10 That doeth great things past finding out, Yea, marvellous things without number.10 Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number. 10 Doing great things till there is no searching, And wonderful, till there is no numbering.

Who will say unto him, What doest thou?12 If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why dost thou so? 12 Lo, He snatches away, who bringeth it back? Who saith unto Him, 'What dost Thou?'
13 "God will not turn back His anger; Beneath Him crouch the helpers of Rahab.13 If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.13 God will not withdraw his anger; The helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.13 God, whose wrath no mall can resist, and under whom they stoop that bear up the world. 13 God doth not turn back His anger, Under Him bowed have proud helpers.
14 "How then can I answer Him, And choose my words before Him?14 How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?14 How much less shall I answer him, And choose out my words to reason with him?14 What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him? 14 How much less do I -- I answer Him? Choose out my words with Him?
15 "For though I were right, I could not answer; I would have to implore the mercy of my judge.15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer; I would make supplication to my judge.15 I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but would make supplication to my judge. 15 Whom, though I were righteous, I answer not, For my judgment I make supplication.

19 "If it is a matter of power, behold, He is the strong one! And if it is a matter of justice, who can summon Him?19 If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?19 If we speak of strength, lo, he is mighty! And if of justice, Who,'saith he , will summon me?19 If strength be demanded, he is most strong: if equity of judgment, no man dare bear witness for me. 19 If of power, lo, the Strong One; And if of judgment -- who doth convene me?
20 "Though I am righteous, my mouth will condemn me; Though I am guiltless, He will declare me guilty.20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.20 Though I be righteous, mine own mouth shall condemn me: Though I be perfect, it shall prove me perverse.20 If I would justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I would shew myself innocent, he shall prove me wicked. 20 If I be righteous, Mine mouth doth declare me wicked, Perfect I am! -- it declareth me perverse.

23 "If the scourge kills suddenly, He mocks the despair of the innocent.23 If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.23 If the scourge slay suddenly, He will mock at the trial of the innocent.23 If he scourge, let him kill at once, and not laugh at the pains of the innocent. 23 If a scourge doth put to death suddenly, At the trial of the innocent He laugheth.
24 "The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covers the faces of its judges. If it is not He, then who is it?24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covereth the faces of the judges thereof: If it be not he , who then is it?24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked, he covereth the face of the judges thereof: and if it be not he, who is it then? 24 Earth hath been given Into the hand of the wicked one. The face of its judges he covereth, If not -- where, who is he?

30 "If I should wash myself with snow And cleanse my hands with lye,30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;30 If I wash myself with snow water, And make my hands never so clean;30 If I be washed as it were with snow waters, and my hands shall shine ever so clean : 30 If I have washed myself with snow-water, And purified with soap my hands,

34 "Let Him remove His rod from me, And let not dread of Him terrify me.34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:34 Let him take his rod away from me, And let not his terror make me afraid:34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me. 34 He doth turn aside from off me his rod, And His terror doth not make me afraid,
35 "Then I would speak and not fear Him; But I am not like that in myself.35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; For I am not so in myself.35 I will speak, and will not fear him: for I cannot answer while I am in fear. 35 I speak, and do not fear Him, But I am not right with myself.
