An Experience of the Captivity.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down and wept, When we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.1 Upon the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept: when we remembered Sion: 1 By rivers of Babylon -- There we did sit, Yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the willows in the midst of it We hung our harps.2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.2 Upon the willows in the midst thereof We hanged up our harps.2 On the willows in the midst thereof we hung up our instruments. 2 On willows in its midst we hung our harps.
3 For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.3 For there they that led us captive required of us songs, And they that wasted us required of us mirth,'saying , Sing us one of the songs of Zion.3 For there they that led us into captivity required of us the words of songs. And they that carried us away, said: Sing ye to us a hymn of the songs of Sion. 3 For there our captors asked us the words of a song, And our spoilers -- joy: 'Sing ye to us of a song of Zion.'
4 How can we sing the LORD'S song In a foreign land?4 How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?4 How shall we sing Jehovah's song In a foreign land?4 How shall we sing the song of the Lord in a strange land? 4 How do we sing the song of Jehovah, On the land of a stranger?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, May my right hand forget her skill.5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her skill .5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten. 5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, my right hand forgetteth!
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth If I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, If I remember thee not; If I prefer not Jerusalem Above my chief joy.6 Let my tongue cleave to my jaws, if I do not remember thee: If I make not Jerusalem the beginning of my joy. 6 My tongue doth cleave to my palate, If I do not remember thee, If I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, "Raze it, raze it To its very foundation."7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.7 Remember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom The day of Jerusalem; Who said, Rase it, rase it, Even to the foundation thereof.7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom, in the day of Jerusalem: Who say: Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. 7 Remember, Jehovah, for the sons of Edom, The day of Jerusalem, Those saying, 'Rase, rase to its foundation!'
8 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, How blessed will be the one who repays you With the recompense with which you have repaid us.8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.8 O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed, Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee As thou hast served us.8 O daughter of Babylon, miserable: blessed shall he be who shall repay thee thy payment which thou hast paid us. 8 O daughter of Babylon, O destroyed one, O the happiness of him who repayeth to thee thy deed, That thou hast done to us.
9 How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones Against the rock.9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones Against the rock. 9 Blessed be he that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. 9 O the happiness of him who doth seize, And hath dashed thy sucklings on the rock!
