The Folly of Trusting in Riches. For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Hear this, all peoples; Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,1 Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:1 Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,1 Unto the end, a psalm for the sons of Core. Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world. 1 To the Overseer. -- By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Hear this, all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.
Both low and high, Rich and poor together.2 Both low and high, rich and poor, together.2 Both low and high, Rich and poor together.2 All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together. 2 Both low and high, together rich and needy.
My mouth will speak wisdom, And the meditation of my heart will be understanding.3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.3 My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.3 My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding. 3 My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart are things of understanding.
I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will express my riddle on the harp.4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.4 I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery. 4 I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle:
Why should I fear in days of adversity, When the iniquity of my foes surrounds me,5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?5 Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me. 5 Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Even those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;6 They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;6 They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches, 6 Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish.
No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him--7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;7 No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom, 7 A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.
For the redemption of his soul is costly, And he should cease trying forever--8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)8 (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;)8 Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever, 8 And precious is the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased -- to the age.
That he should live on eternally, That he should not undergo decay.9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.9 That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.9 and shall still live unto the end. 9 And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.
For he sees that even wise men die; The stupid and the senseless alike perish And leave their wealth to others.10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.10 For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.10 He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers: 10 For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Their inner thought is that their houses are forever And their dwelling places to all generations; They have called their lands after their own names.11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.11 Their inward thought is, that their houses'shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.11 and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names. 11 Their heart is: Their houses are to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.
But man in his pomp will not endure; He is like the beasts that perish.12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.12 But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.12 And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them. 12 And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.
This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. Selah.13 This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.13 This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah13 This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth. 13 This their way is folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah.
As sheep they are appointed for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall rule over them in the morning, And their form shall be for Sheol to consume So that they have no habitation.14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.14 They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.14 They are laid in hell like sheep: death shall feed upon them. And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their help shall decay in hell from their glory. 14 As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form is for consumption. Sheol is a dwelling for him.
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me. Selah.15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah15 But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, when he shall receive me. 15 Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich, When the glory of his house is increased;16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.16 Be not thou afraid, when a man shall be made rich, and when the glory of his house shall be increased. 16 Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant,
For when he dies he will carry nothing away; His glory will not descend after him.17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.17 For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; nor shall his glory descend with him. 17 For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him.
Though while he lives he congratulates himself-- And though men praise you when you do well for yourself--18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,)18 For in his lifetime his soul will be blessed: and he will praise thee when thou shalt do well to him. 18 For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.)
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They will never see the light.19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.19 He shall go in to the generations of his fathers: and he shall never see light. 19 It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light.
Man in his pomp, yet without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.20 Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.20 Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish. 20 Man when he was in honour did not understand: he hath been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them. 20 Man in honour, who understandest not, Hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off!
