As Newborn Babes
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings,1 Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,1 Wherefore laying away all malice, and all guile, and dissimulations, and envies, and all detractions, 1 Having put aside, then, all evil, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all evil speakings,
2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:2 as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;2 As newborn babes, desire the rational milk without guile, that thereby you may grow unto salvation: 2 as new-born babes the word's pure milk desire ye, that in it ye may grow,
3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.3 if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:3 If so be you have tasted that the Lord is sweet. 3 if so be ye did taste that the Lord is gracious,
As Living Stones
4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God,4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,4 unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious,4 Unto whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen and made honourable by God: 4 to whom coming -- a living stone -- by men, indeed, having been disapproved of, but with God choice, precious,
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.5 ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.5 Be you also as living stones built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 5 and ye yourselves, as living stones, are built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
6 For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.6 Because it is contained in scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.6 Wherefore it is said in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious. And he that shall believe in him, shall not be confounded. 6 Wherefore, also, it is contained in the Writing: 'Lo, I lay in Zion a chief corner-stone, choice, precious, and he who is believing on him may not be put to shame;'
7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,"7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,7 For you therefore that believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner;7 To you therefore that believe, he is honour: but to them that believe not, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner: 7 to you, then, who are believing is the preciousness; and to the unbelieving, a stone that the builders disapproved of, this one did become for the head of a corner,
8 and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.8 and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of scandal, to them who stumble at the word, neither do believe, whereunto also they are set. 8 and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence -- who are stumbling at the word, being unbelieving, -- to which also they were set;
9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;9 But ye are a elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:9 But you are a chosen generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people: that you may declare his virtues, who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 9 and ye are a choice race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people acquired, that the excellences ye may shew forth of Him who out of darkness did call you to His wondrous light;
10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.10 who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.10 Who in time past were not a people: but are now the people of God. Who had not obtained mercy; but now have obtained mercy. 10 who were once not a people, and are now the people of God; who had not found kindness, and now have found kindness.
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;11 Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul;11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul, 11 Beloved, I call upon you, as strangers and sojourners, to keep from the fleshly desires, that war against the soul,
12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.12 having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.12 Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works, which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation. 12 having your behaviour among the nations right, that in that which they speak against you as evil-doers, of the good works having beheld, they may glorify God in a day of inspection.
Honor Authority
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority,13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;13 Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;13 Be ye subject therefore to every human creature for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling; 13 Be subject, then, to every human creation, because of the Lord, whether to a king, as the highest,
14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.14 or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well.14 Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of the good: 14 whether to governors, as to those sent through him, for punishment, indeed, of evil-doers, and a praise of those doing good;
15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:15 For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:15 For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 15 because, so is the will of God, doing good, to put to silence the ignorance of the foolish men;
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.16 as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.16 As free, and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God. 16 as free, and not having the freedom as the cloak of the evil, but as servants of God;
17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 17 to all give ye honour; the brotherhood love ye; God fear ye; the king honour ye.
18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable.18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.18 Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 18 The domestics! be subjecting yourselves in all fear to the masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the cross;
19 For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.19 For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.19 For this is thankworthy, if for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully. 19 for this is gracious, if because of conscience toward God any one doth endure sorrows, suffering unrighteously;
20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.20 For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it , ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it , ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.20 For what glory is it, if committing sin, and being buffeted for it, you endure? But if doing well you suffer patiently; this is thankworthy before God. 20 for what renown is it, if sinning and being buffeted, ye do endure it? but if, doing good and suffering for it, ye do endure, this is gracious with God,
Christ Is Our Example
NASBKJVASVDRBYLT
21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:21 For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:21 For unto this are you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example that you should follow his steps. 21 for to this ye were called, because Christ also did suffer for you, leaving to you an example, that ye may follow his steps,
22 WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. 22 who did not commit sin, nor was guile found in his mouth,
23 and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:23 who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:23 Who, when he was reviled, did not revile: when he suffered, he threatened not: but delivered himself to him that judged him unjustly. 23 who being reviled -- was not reviling again, suffering -- was not threatening, and was committing himself to Him who is judging righteously,
24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.24 who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.24 Who his own self bore our sins in his body upon the tree: that we, being dead to sins, should live to justice: by whose stripes you were healed. 24 who our sins himself did bear in his body, upon the tree, that to the sins having died, to the righteousness we may live; by whose stripes ye were healed,
25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.25 For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.25 For you were as sheep going astray; but you are now converted to the shepherd and bishop of your souls. 25 for ye were as sheep going astray, but ye turned back now to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
