Keep Fervent in Your Love | ||||
NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, | 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; | 1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; | 1 Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins: | 1 Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, ye also with the same mind arm yourselves, because he who did suffer in the flesh hath done with sin, | 2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. | 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. | 2 that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. | 2 That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh , not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God. | 2 no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh; | 3 For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries. | 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: | 3 For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries: | 3 For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols. | 3 for sufficient to us is the past time of life the will of the nations to have wrought, having walked in lasciviousnesses, desires, excesses of wines, revellings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries, | 4 In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you; | 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: | 4 wherein they think strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of of : | 4 Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you. | 4 in which they think it strange -- your not running with them to the same excess of dissoluteness, speaking evil, | 5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. | 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. | 5 who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. | 5 Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead. | 5 who shall give an account to Him who is ready to judge living and dead, | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God. | 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. | 6 For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. | 6 For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit. | 6 for for this also to dead men was good news proclaimed, that they may be judged, indeed, according to men in the flesh, and may live according to God in the spirit. | 7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. | 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. | 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer: | 7 But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers. | 7 And of all things the end hath come nigh; be sober-minded, then, and watch unto the prayers, | 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. | 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. | 8 above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins: | 8 But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins. | 8 and, before all things, to one another having the earnest love, because the love shall cover a multitude of sins; | 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint. | 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. | 9 using hospitality one to another without murmuring: | 9 Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring, | 9 hospitable to one another, without murmuring; | 10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. | 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. | 10 according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; | 10 As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. | 10 each, according as he received a gift, to one another ministering it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. | 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. | 11 if any man speaketh,'speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. | 11 If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. | 11 if any one doth speak -- 'as oracles of God;' if any one doth minister -- 'as of the ability which God doth supply;' that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power -- to the ages of the ages. Amen. | Share the Sufferings of Christ |
| 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; | 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: | 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you: | 12 Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you; | 12 Beloved, think it not strange at the fiery suffering among you that is coming to try you, as if a strange thing were happening to you, | 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. | 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. | 13 but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. | 13 But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. | 13 but, according as ye have fellowship with the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice ye, that also in the revelation of his glory ye may rejoice -- exulting; | 14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. | 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. | 14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye ; because the'spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you. | 14 If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you. | 14 if ye be reproached in the name of Christ -- happy are ye, because the Spirit of glory and of God upon you doth rest; in regard, indeed, to them, he is evil-spoken of, and in regard to you, he is glorified; | 15 Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler; | 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. | 15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters: | 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men's things. | 15 for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evil-doer, or as an inspector into other men's matters; | NASB | KJV | ASV | DRB | YLT |
| 16 but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. | 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. | 16 but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name. | 16 But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. | 16 and if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; and let him glorify God in this respect; | 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? | 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? | 17 For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what'shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? | 17 For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God? | 17 because it is the time of the beginning of the judgment from the house of God, and if first from us, what the end of those disobedient to the good news of God? | 18 AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER? | 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? | 18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? | 18 And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? | 18 And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, the ungodly and sinner -- where shall he appear? | 19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right. | 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. | 19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator. | 19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator. | 19 so that also those suffering according to the will of god, as to a stedfast Creator, let them commit their own souls in good doing. |
